Suggestions on Sherwin Williams off-white,cool tone paint colors?
Comments (11)I can say I might trump you on living in a dreary area! I'd buy some 4 poster boards from Michael's or where ever you have locally cut them in half so you have 8 pieces to sample 2 colors. Leave a 2" border of white all the way around and paint the rest with any of the colors you choose or any I have mentioned. I'd go for City Loft or Aesthetic White. Shoji is another that will lean slightly gray, but I didn't sample it as I'm familiar with it in other spaces and for my space and furnishings in the eat in sunroom I knew it would not work. It really is a lot of work, but to get it right.... You have some interesting colors and the only way to know is to try even though it's a pain. I'm not done, but here is a photo of Aesthetic white in my sunroom. TALK ABOUT DREARY and you can see high it leans a bit slight gray. I cropped the photo as this is the only spot I have 2 coats to have you best see. The room has three taller windows left and right with a paned single door to the backyard and on the back wall 4 large paned windows so there is a lot of light in this space. As you move in to the kitchen it's not as bright, but the light from the sunroom toward the kitchen makes the paint look a pinch lighter more like the bottom of the photo. I hope it helps you and as I mentioned paint can change from room to room. I found it a nice compromise I was very torn between Egret and City Loft and Aesthetic White all having slight nuances that differ, yet barely. I had used Aesthetic in an office I did recently and loved it so I tried in in my home and well.... I do love it and will use it more in the future....See MoreWhich Sherwin Williams white paint color to get this look?
Comments (22)And I also caution you to evaluate your paint with all samples of all hard elements together - so any wood, stone, tile, carpet, major textiles like sofas, bedding, etc ALL together at the same time...again, pure white is great for cabinets and trim but something soft and not so bright for the walls will look more pulled together and ‘finished’. Your first inspiration pic where all walls and trim in all one color is not a bright white like Pure White. Your second inspiration pic which shows only trim/wainscot is probably a brighter white like Pure White however then I ask what was the wall color used with it and with what other fixed materials? If you want a complete white on white look like your first pic you will need to go darker than Pure White (IMO and Maria Killams:)...See Morewarm gray Sherwin Williams interior paint colors
Comments (5)My Dad recently painted his whole house in SW Accessible Beige, which is a griege that leans warm. He doesn't have marble flooring though. His house is totally in the warm (brown) color tones. It came down between that and Worldly Gray, which leans cool, but to my eye has a green undertone that didn't look good in his house. It sounds like you want to choose a light griege that leans to the warm side. Someone taught me how to choose the perfect griege. It goes like this: Have your lighting already installed because that will impact the way paint looks. Go to the griege area in the fan-deck of paint colors (in the area that includes "worldly gray," and "accessible beige." Look at the darkest paint colors on the strips. Considering your room, decide what underone you would like to have in your paint color and choose 2 or 3 paint strips where the darkest color represents an undertone you want. Now move up the paint strips to the lighter colors (probably the lightest). Now choose 2 or 3 light griege paints and go to the SW store with some samples of materials from your room and nearby rooms (such as paint color of adjacent rooms, cabinet color, marble flooring, etc.). Ask the SW people to weigh in. They might suggest a color you hadn't thought of. Get 2, 3 or 4 samples at SW. Paint large areas of your room in the samples. Let it dry all the way and look at the colors at different times of the day to choose your color. For me this method has worked well to choose different grieges for my house. Some of the grieges I chose lean warm and some lean cool. The one in my bedroom has a green undertone which works great for that room but would look horrible in others. The method above works great to lead you to the perfect color without having to get 30 samples....See MoreSherwin Williams Paint Color Help?
Comments (4)What color is one the walls now? The couch is gray, but certainly does have green undertones and I would like to avoid it to look any greener. Very pretty, looks amazing with the rug. Obviously in the greens hue family range. Contrast emphasizes hue so you'd want to stay in the same hue family range as the sofa - maybe counter intuitive but the amplification of color lies in contrast. And you don't want that. What undertones should I try to avoid? Here's the thing, colors don't have undertones. Undertones are just someone's subjective opinion about what a color looks like - to them - under whatever random light source there happens to be. Instead of guessing about undertones it's much easier to use the current color info (if you happen to know what it is) so we know what hue family doesn't work. That info and the color of the sofa provides direction about what hue family is the right one to shop for paint colors....See MoreGN Builders L.L.C
