I would investigate companies like Karastan, which specifically makes runners for stairs. Otherwise, choosing a wall to wall carpet for your stairs could be a huge waste of money. Let’s say the carpet comes off the bolt at 12’. That means 12’wide! You stairs need 3’ for a runner. If you choose a pattern in the rug, that complicates the simple math. Simply, you are paying for lots of waste. Wear and tear…how many tootsies are going up and down your Mediterranean staircase every day?

I'm afraid I don't understand your question. Are you asking about what material the wall is clad in or are you asking about the doohickey above the toilet that is used to flush it (I believe that is what it is)?

I would like to hesr form the OP He wants to replace the flooring for god's sake how can that be done without dealing with the rest. IMO the floor is the only thing worth keeping. I need to understand what his plan is . I respect that people can't afford big changes but flooring is abig change to wnat ot do with a ton of really dated stuff.
