backsplash help needed

Notice the outlets below the window. How do we do a backsplash/trim? Electrician said this is code to have outlets here.

Also looking for recommendations on a backsplash material. Cabinets are SW Alabaster and countertops will be White Maucabus quartzite.

You know, you don't HAVE to have a back splash. It's ok to just have a painted wall - with the right paint finish it isn't even hard to clean up.

I would tile the whole wall. Not sure what you mean by outlets and trim. Tile is cut for the outlets.

When you say you purchased longer individual bullnose tile: Is it bullnose on the short edge? Or are the individual tiles bullnose on the long edge? Both? I assume the tile has bullnose on the long edge. I make this assumption bc it seems like he cut the sheet and flipped the tile vertically, putting the long bullnose on the edge of that wall cut out. Yet, I can't tell from the photos what's going on next to the cabinet end. Is the tile edge next to the cabinet-end also bullnose? Did he cut and place a piece of the individual bullnose tile there? Did you want that top edge to be bullnose? I am trying to think through dealing with that corner piece and whether it would need bullnose on the top and on it's side.... Sorry, I am not more helpful. I only just DIY tiled my first backsplash.... Maybe you could explain that you do not want any tile placed vertically. Instead, he should cut the individual tile to size so it continues the subway pattern and the bullnose edge should be where the edge of the tile meets that opening? (Not sure how you want to handle that top edge?) Maybe also suggest that he can cut and trim the sheets as needed to preserve the pattern rather than just putting small slivers of bullnose tile at the edge? ....

I might do something like this Fire Clay tile. Your Fantasy Brown looks more green than blue. https://www.fireclaytile.com/tile/colors/detail/blue-spruce/ I think this glass mosaic is very pretty. I've seen similar tile and I think it might have a little brown in it too. Not that I'm advocating a mosaic, but you could use a smaller tile because your backsplash isn't right next to the FB granite and you have a small space to tile. It is probably too minty. Click on More Info and look at the other photos of this kitchen to see how they used color. You've committed to an accent color with the FB so I wouldn't feel reluctant to add it to the backsplash.

Worn gray barn wood type floors are very trendy. Often the more trendy something is, the less timeless. I was at a flooring store just last week and the flooring specialist agreed that the grays were trending out. What is on trend or not doesn't matter if you love a look, but gray floors with your warm wood cabinets would also not work well color wise - as mentioned before warm woods and cool grays do not bring out the best in each other. Gray has been big while dark woods and whites were the predominate cabinet and trim colors because it works well with those tones. Now that warm tones are returning, gray is being used with a much lighter touch. I would not use it in something you expect to last 20 years like flooring. Wood cabinets, especially oak, have "movement" due to the grain variation and wood tone variation. Your countertop also has movement. If your backsplash also has movement there is no place for the eye to rest. Even if all three surfaces individually are pretty, movement in cabinets, countertop and backsplash comes off too busy as a whole. The subway tile in a cream would probably work the best. Consider cream or sage green for wall colors.

We have 4 inch trim - the outlet is in the way. So do we not trim out the window, just tile?

close up would be better..is each of two outlets a quad???? seems a double for each would be enough. that would bring down the dimension a bit.....bottom of window gets a sill .... the bit of protrusion would disguise the outlet covers in a way....if thats what you dislike/ but you wont be bothered abt it later ........ casings on the other 3 window sides and then pick your tile. Sill /ledge can be kind of nice in a kitchen...I redid a kitchen window and had the ledge removed and di d not replace it for a few reasons / just flush picture frame casings and its okay but these ledges shown are nice at window obviously.... Is there a trim person there to guide you?

Herbflavor's window sill solution is fantastic. Other possible solutions are using a Sillite outlet installed in the trim or on the sill, or using a countertop pop-up outlet in the cabinet left of the DW. You would want to clear the pop-up in advance with the inspector, since that would be a few inches further from the sink than code technically requires. And you would probably have to alter the top drawer of that cabinet to make it fit.

To add to herbflavor’s suggestion, ask your fabricator if they can cut a sill from your quartzite slab. It’ll be gorgeous!
