backsplash help needed

Notice the outlets below the window. How do we do a backsplash/trim? Electrician said this is code to have outlets here.

Also looking for recommendations on a backsplash material. Cabinets are SW Alabaster and countertops will be White Maucabus quartzite.

You know, you don't HAVE to have a back splash. It's ok to just have a painted wall - with the right paint finish it isn't even hard to clean up.

I would tile the whole wall. Not sure what you mean by outlets and trim. Tile is cut for the outlets.

Marieskit and pagesturned: The floor is a porcelain tile Monocibec Graal Montesegur. We used it in the kitchen and the adjoining hallway. So far we really love the look of it. We used a random pattern with 3 different sizes of tiles. Thank you all so much for the comments and help with the backsplash. I will start looking at creamy subways. The subway in the picture is actually a Sonama tile in Cirrus -which has a green cast and is a crackle. I have one small sample of a white tile, but may be too white. Breezygirl thanks for the comment about the sink. It was actually this forum that made me look at the cascade sink. When I asked about it at the plumbing supply store we used, they had not even seen that model yet. We also ordered the optional grid for the bottom of the sink. I am anxious to get the faucet installed to actually get to use the sink. We have a grohe lady lux pro going in on Tuesday. I think I will really love how nice and deep the sink is. Thoughts for creamy subways - should I pursue a crackle or just a glossy tile. Also any thoughts on using stainless tiles to do an accent area behind the stove? Do I need a little "bling" in the kitchen or will it just be too busy? Thanks again

Do you have any scrap soapstone samples? There are chemicals that can be used to remove caulk. (They can be purchased from the big box stores - Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) If you have some scraps, you could test the products on them first and see if you could simply use the chemicals to remove the caulk. You might also be able to use a razor blade to scrape off the excess. And then use your sanding technique to remove the rest. If you do re-caulk, you need to remove everything. Caulk does not stick to caulk so you want a clean joint to redo. When you do redo the caulk, make certain to mask the area to protect your countertop. You'll want to remove the masking as the caulk is wet or sometimes it pulls the caulk and makes the caulk edge jagged. (Disclaimer: I do not have soapstone. Nor have I ever caulked soapstone. However, I have caulked other materials and I always mask first to prevent smearing. I find caulking to be messy business.)

Everything looks beautiful so far, and I'm sure what ever you choose the result will be lovely. I am not a fan of the 4" border concept. It reminds me of the 4" laminate bs of yesteryear. I love the subway tile. I'm not sure which mosaic you think of as the basketweave, but you might want to consider using the small stone square mosaic with the large central pewter accent (just to the right of the stove) in a rectangle with a border/frame around it above the stove. You'll want to think about the spacing of the accent tiles - 4 as you have them, or 6 (mimics the burners) or three in the center. It's hard to know without tile dimensions but you'll figure it out. Pretty tile. Are your shelves extending to the edge of the countertop? The question most frequently asked is: do you end the tile at the cabinets (shelves, in your case) or at the countertop? Is that a closed door to the right of the outlet? Is the outlet a light switch? I would think it would look odd to go to the floor unless you also went to the ceiling.

We have 4 inch trim - the outlet is in the way. So do we not trim out the window, just tile?

close up would be better..is each of two outlets a quad???? seems a double for each would be enough. that would bring down the dimension a bit.....bottom of window gets a sill .... the bit of protrusion would disguise the outlet covers in a way....if thats what you dislike/ but you wont be bothered abt it later ........ casings on the other 3 window sides and then pick your tile. Sill /ledge can be kind of nice in a kitchen...I redid a kitchen window and had the ledge removed and di d not replace it for a few reasons / just flush picture frame casings and its okay but these ledges shown are nice at window obviously.... Is there a trim person there to guide you?

Herbflavor's window sill solution is fantastic. Other possible solutions are using a Sillite outlet installed in the trim or on the sill, or using a countertop pop-up outlet in the cabinet left of the DW. You would want to clear the pop-up in advance with the inspector, since that would be a few inches further from the sink than code technically requires. And you would probably have to alter the top drawer of that cabinet to make it fit.

To add to herbflavor’s suggestion, ask your fabricator if they can cut a sill from your quartzite slab. It’ll be gorgeous!
