Peninsula pendant spacing
Comments (4)How high is your ceiling over the peninsula? We have peninsulas in our main kitchen and the lower level galley kitchen. Both rooms have 9' ceilings. Both peninsulas are 10' long and each has an upper cabinet over the wall end of the peninsula. We have 3 pendants (5-1/2" diameter) spaced 2' apart (center to center) over each. The pendants in the upstairs kitchen look fine, mainly because there is a 3' wide, 12" high soffit that goes wall to wall over the peninsula to separate the kitchen from the large eating area, which also lowers the pendants one foot. In the lower level, I wish I'd gotten pendants that were somewhat (1-2" ?) larger, because without the soffit to enclose the space more, they seem a little puny. They all take 100w bulbs. Comments (13)My opinion only, and I'm not a professional decorator...I prefer the look of two lights versus three in general and especially because of your hood. If you like the look of the smaller one better, use that one. I have seen quite a variety in terms of size of pendants in relation to island size, so anything goes. Although I'm sure there is probably a "rule of thumb". But as long as you like the way it looks...nothing else really matters....See MoreNeed help with pendant light spacing above peninsula
Comments (1)With 8' ceilings, I would not use a pendant. It will always interrupt the flow between the rooms. I would go with recessed lighting over the peninsula....See MorePendant Spacing for a 6' Kitchen Island
Comments (11)Hi Rachel. The wider spacing is the correct one. 24" on center and 12" from the edge of the island will give you the most even lighting. Here's why: the illumination from each light spreads equally in all directions. So you can think of the glow as a circle centered under each light. With the above spacing, each circle kisses both the edge of the countertop and the edge of the adjacent circle. Any tighter spacing, by contrast, would give you overlapping circles and darker shadows at the edges. The same concept applies to lighting a room. Just swap walls for countertop edges. Generally speaking, X-2X-2X-X gives you the most even illumination....See MoreJennifer
