Basement too Bland

Hello- we recently redid our basement I removed the drop ceiling and had it all sprayed black The walls were supposed to be a light gray but are way more white

What can i add to the walls to break up the white/add color to the room?

It looks bland because there isn't anything in the room. What is the flooring in this room? Do you already own furniture you're going to use in here or are you buying new? What you have now is a nice neutral backdrop that can go in a lot of different directions. Personally I don't like dark wall colors in basements since they're usually short on natural light. After you tell us what your other plans are people will be better able to make suggestions.

Ceiling looks great! Some large colorful art would go a long way - I have used oversized tapestries from Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie over the years bc they are a total steal for the impact-

definitely don't skimp on texture - rugs, cozy throws, textured pillows etc - it makes a huge difference

ETA - you could do a mural wallpaper along one wall - that could be fun and give the walls some interest

An existing basement won't have the cutouts for the steel chassis of a manufactured home. It would need to be built up a couple of feet to make room for the chassis, so you could get the cutouts then. It won't have the footings for the support poles in the right locations for either a modular or manufactured home, so all the support pole locations would need to be dug out and have proper footings poured. Do the math and see if what you save on not having the foundation poured is lost in modifications to the basement to make it work. 30Ã¢ÂÂ wide homes do exist, and you can customize a 48' home to 50 feet, but I would take numerous measurements and verify actual home versus nominal measurements before purchase.

I love the combination. My entry, living room, and dining room are all painted gray with white trim and cream curtains. I have some bolder furniture in there to add some interest. I frequently get compliments on the room, even from random strangers delivering things to my home. The living room and entry face South, but the dining room faces North. I love the serenity of the color combination and even the North-facing room does not feel too cool.

Yes, do keep them out of humidity. If the sun ever comes out (I'm not too far from you, in WV, and it has been raining for 2 1/2 months straight!) then put them out in a single layer in the sun during the day to cure. Take them in at night when the dew falls. (I use big buckets to do the daily transporting. )Do this for one or two weeks, and they'll be well cured. Then, what I do with mine is braid them using twine and whatever of the dried tops are still left. Then I hang them in a large closet. The braiding and hanging makes sure there is a plenty of air around them. The closet makes it dark so they don't think about growing. If you can find a place in your house that is dark and dry and also cool, all the better. My onions don't get the "cold" part of best storage methods, but they still last until late spring.If they start to sprout around April, I put the last on them in the fridge and that slows down their springtime aspirations. Refer to Table R802.4(1) http://premiumaccess.iccsafe.org/document/code/272/4634063 If you don't know which species/grade of lumber they used, assume Hem-for #3 or southern pine #3, depending on what region you are in. The worst case shows 7'-2" on 24" centers for 2×4 lumber. There are plenty of options for 2×4 lumber with 11'+ spans, especially at 12" or 16" centers for the joists. A drop/suspended ceiling should be able to be hung from the concrete.

DIY a Mondrian inspired wall mural above the rail. Tape masking tape vertically and horizontally in random spacing. Each piece the entire length and height, making rectangular and square boxes from larger to smaller.

Randomly paint in some of the boxes in your chosen colors until you achieve the effect you want. Use soothing colors or bold colors. Remove the tape and voila. I suppose you could do as many walls as you wish.

Photo perspective doesn’t show the overall room but it appears you have a nice narrow railing that may work for resting art.

Lighting is essential in a basement. Your dark ceiling absorbs much illumination. Wall sconces likely will be your best solution.

That said, don’t be afraid of color. It adds personality. We defined various areas within ours in this manner. Here’s a video which may be helpful.

IMO we need some info as to what you are planning to do with the space . I dislike black ceilings in basements not to mention all the spiders that love those beams and that amount of extra lighting you need to have,

It looks bland because it is. You have given yourself a blank canvas in black and white to work with.

What do you want to do with this space? That will add the spice to your blank canvas.

What to do with wall space is dependent on what you are doing with the space and the age of the people who will be using the space and what you want to invest (both time and money).
