This is a small bottom floor entrance to a multi story townhome. It connects to the garage, a storage closet, and a guest bedroom. Realistically when we come home most days we’ll quickly go upstairs. I want to find a way of making this space welcoming and functional. We don’t want to be dragging our shoes, coats and keys upstairs every day, but there is not a lot of room to work with here.

Shoes are my biggest problem. Is there any creative way to implement shoe storage here despite the radiator? I’m also considering putting a shoe rack in the guest bedroom if that the most functional option.

Would appreciate any and all ideas! This is our first home and everything is up in the air right now!

All these items can be used for lots of different things in future homes. I use a folding stool in my shower when I am really exhausted from several days of hard work on the farm.

You can wall mount a shoe rack above the radiator.

Its a small space with a few things with which you need easy access also it would be easy to knock something placed there with the opening of the two doors very close but i do have a couple of suggestions 1. Either a clock or piece of art work ( decorative purposes) or add a small oval mirror with one of those shelves that have a couple of small drawers in them- place to put in keys, gloves, handy stationary ( pen and notepad), comb, for a quick check up when up need before heading out. Even small umbrella stand too.

I would put hooks mounted on the wall perpendicular to the heater (so, the exterior wall) high enough for coats (maybe 1 or 2 more hooks on the heater wall but to far right - it is ok if the coats are smooshed when all hanging, I just wouldn't want to cover the alarm thing or get the coats near the heater (because I'd want the heat to get into the room, not just into the coats, not because I think its a safety issue).

I'd just put a non skid rug that completely covers that corner and out to the entry - so people walk off the dirt, and then can take off their shoes and put them on the rug (near the heater) - I bet many pairs of shoes will fit under the coats. You could do a basket but then you always dig for your shoes. I've been mom for 20 years now and its just easiest to have a rug there and let the shoes be in a pile imo.

I'd put a key rack under the alarm thingee.
