Need Tile Decision Help Again Please! Please Vote!
Comments (19)I'd vote for the basketweave (and not just because I used the floral on the wall in my kitchen). Mosaics generally aren't slippery - the grout lines make them grippier than a lot of large(r) format tiles. I have these crappy white 6x6's in every bathroom in this house (ugh) and you could like to kill yourself on those with wet feet. The issue with the floral is that onyx can be fragile. I got a pretty decent lot, but I also hand inspected every single sheet, removed the "uglies" and used two sheets to replace the rejected pieces. The marble also has some very distinct gray (which does not appear in your limestone) but does appear in my Corian, so I'm not bothered by it. And yes, I did use bright white grout and no, I would never use traditional white sanded grout on a bathroom floor. At a tile shop you'd likely have more choices in the white/cream family. I just think that overall the basketweave is a stronger choice for your space. If you got a very grey lot of the floral you'd be even more behind on tile - and stuck with it to boot. Comments (12)Thanks for the pictures. This is one of those occasions where it really will be fine, whatever you do. You have a very complex and detailed door style, however, and you're going to add to that with glass in the center. This might be a good occasion to decide that more is enough, and more-is-more is too much. I, personally, would even rethink the glass. It might be nice for brightening up the area, especially if you're going to light the cabinet, but the repetition of forms in your picture with them all at the same level is pleasing to the eye. I think that repetition gets lost in the ones that are raised, and will be even more lost with the glass. BTW, with the ones raised and brought forward, do you have trim to fill the space on the sides, behind the center cabinet? If not, that's a no-go....See MoreWhat kind of door handles do I need/want for French doors?
Comments (8)Thank you all for your help! You're correct that the doors are fiberglass. I called our salesman at Ganahl this morning and he said we can't do multipoint locks on these doors and there was some other option that we would have had to select at the time of purchase but can't be added now. Wish I had researched this better and/or asked better questions at the time we ordered the doors, since they are now non-returnable. Hopefully it works out. I bought the keyed door lever and deadbolt (single cylinder - see below) for the active door and two dummy door handles for the passive door. Re double cylinder, the Ganahl salesman said the downside of that, aside from inconvenience, is that in the event of a fire or other emergency, it slows down your ability to exit the house quickly. If someone is determined to break into the house, the double cylinder may create an extra step but they'll find another way in. And P.S. I do live in a warm and safe area, although it's an El Niño year, so good luck to us and our new doors! Thank you all again!!...See MoreGarage Door Design Decision. Help!
Comments (5)Weathy, I appreciate your comment. From what I've noticed driving around and looking at garage doors and speaking with neighbors who have had theirs painted to match the siding- the garage door fades differently than the siding, and after time looks lighter than the siding, even when painted at the same time. Though it's minor, it's something that would bother me. Jennifer, I have the same thoughts as you. Less is more and it's on the side of the house so I'm not concerned about not drawing attention. Thank you! Rustynail, thank you for for sharing your experience with Urbane Bronze! I've thought about using it on interior doors and now I will consider it even more....See MoreJP L
