final decision help needed re oven
Comments (5)The racks are a big consideration, as weiss528i pointed out. I thought I noticed that the Profile ovens were smaller inside than the Monogram, but I can't be sure of that. (I see in looking at the websites, they both claim the same size, but check 'usable size' for the pans you like to use.) Now that I've had the full-extension Monogram racks, it would be hard to go back, but if you've never had them, you might not notice as much. One disadvantage is the room they take up... You get 7 rack positions in the Profile, but only 5 in the Monogram...in case that might matter. But I also MUCH preferred the options in appearance with the Monogram ovens...and prefer knob controls over touch screens. I seriously considered the single and Advantium, because I think we could do with the 1 1/2 ovens, sizewise, and I thought the speed oven option might be fun and nice to have. But the cost prohibited it...At least $1000 more to have a sgl and the Advantium than have the dbl. And we already had a microwave we like that will only be $200 to replace if needed. So we stuck with the dbl oven and regular microwave. Best wishes!...See MoreJenn-Air French Door v. SubZero French door refrigerator
Comments (9)Thanks for your input. A fully integrated refrigerator allows the doors of the refrigerator to be completely flush with the cabinets next to it. The hinges allow the door to fold into the cabinet, rather than outside it. A counter depth refrigerator will stick out a couple of inches, and even if panel ready, will still show an inch or 2 of the sides of the refrigerator. I've even been told counter depth panel ready will show a bit of metal on the front door. It has to do with the door hinges. I didn't think there was a difference between built-in and fully integrated, but I could be wrong. My issue with SZ is the lack of split shelves, which we occasionally use to stand taller items like opened wine bottles or pots of soup. We are a family of four, with 2 boys 10,12 who are definitely hitting growth spurts! The SZ FD also only comes in 36" vs JAN 42", so there is smaller capacity. I'm wondering if we shouldn't just go with panel ready counter depth so we have more brand options and see if we can customize the cabinets to hide the sides. Any thoughts , has anyone done? _______________________________...See MoreNeed Tile Decision Help Again Please! Please Vote!
Comments (19)I'd vote for the basketweave (and not just because I used the floral on the wall in my kitchen). Mosaics generally aren't slippery - the grout lines make them grippier than a lot of large(r) format tiles. I have these crappy white 6x6's in every bathroom in this house (ugh) and you could like to kill yourself on those with wet feet. The issue with the floral is that onyx can be fragile. I got a pretty decent lot, but I also hand inspected every single sheet, removed the "uglies" and used two sheets to replace the rejected pieces. The marble also has some very distinct gray (which does not appear in your limestone) but does appear in my Corian, so I'm not bothered by it. And yes, I did use bright white grout and no, I would never use traditional white sanded grout on a bathroom floor. At a tile shop you'd likely have more choices in the white/cream family. I just think that overall the basketweave is a stronger choice for your space. If you got a very grey lot of the floral you'd be even more behind on tile - and stuck with it to boot. Comments (21)People often forget (and some never knew), that garage doors are often the single largest architectural element on the façade of a house. When there are more than a single car garage door, the dominance is usually overwhelming. Compare the image of a house with 2-3-4 or more garage doors visible from the street with older houses which had an alley and the garage behind the house. Which of the two houses looks more appealing and retains its inviting residential image longer over time? So...add to the size, scale and proportion of the garage door(s) the façade in which the garage doors are located, and you usually have a scale buster (architectural jargon) on your hands! It's one of the primary reasons many professionals on this forum advise against having the garage doors visible from the front of the house, especially if they project forward of the rest of the house and create the dreaded "snout garage"....See MoreJP L
