To paint or not to paint?
Comments (38)love the wood, and retiring to a cabin, I'm so jealous. you could certainly add some light through the pieces around the room. a quick white wash to the table and chair set and the coffee table. I love the black white check theme you have started, keep going with that and pretty soon the wood will fade into the background. maybe white wash the two columns and maybe pick an accent wall to paint to add some contast to the wood. and I think the rugs will go a long way to brighten up the space. if you do decide to paint some of the wood, remember, the wood will always be there to return to for you or another later. good luck and happy sleeping in, you deserve it....See MoreGood paint on tile/tub paint? Comments (0)I'm touching up my kitchen. Reworking things isn't in the budget for a while. But some painting is. Not posting the whole thing right now, just looking for paint suggestions. I have a very small area of backspash that I want to go over in white for now. It's only about 10 4x4 tiles (in two single strips of 5 tiles) in a sort of out of the way spot, so I'm not going to argue about just wanting to go painted white with it for now. I would like it to last a while if I can. There used to be a paint on product to go over tub and tile. Meant to stick to sealed ceramic tile and last for a couple years if treated nice. Now I can only find it in a spray can. I'd rather not have to full mask off 10 tiles worth of space between the window and cabinets for spraying if I can find the paint on version. I realize I can buy the spray cans and spray into a bucket and paint with it- but again, if there is an easier paint of version I'd rather do it....See MoreBest ceiling paint: SW Promar ceiling paint or Behr ceiling paint
Comments (9)Sorry, it was late last night when I sent you the two links. I understand the hesitancy. Simply white is the right undertone, but may feel a bit too yellow, a bit too colorful when you are looking at samples vs looking at an entire wall. I also get that painting trim and ceilings is not inexpensive and something you don't want to make a mistake. @Beth H. : is one of the pros who posts often on Houzz and I believe I remember some posts from her where she stated that she had used White Dove and re-painted with Simply White. I think she used it on her Trim, Walls and Ceilings, but maybe she will see this post and chime in. There is not a color out there that works 100% of the time in every home. There is a reason that I didn't pick a ready formulated white and used the color match to icing. Although it is very slight, the difference between Simply White and Icing is that Simply White has a bit of gray added to the yellow, where Icing has orange. Both are very light whites, both give you a touch of warmth to soften the feeling, but I notice the slightest green tinge in Simply White that I don't see when I use Icing. Simply White would be my first choice if I had to choose a white from one of the stock formula whites from BM or SW. I am not sure that anyone would see a difference if I would have chosen Simply White instead of Icing, but my OCD took over the decision making process. Here are two photos of my foyer using BM Frosted Toffee (walls and ceiling) and Icing (door and trim)....See MoreTo paint or not to paint
Comments (16)I’d leave if you don’t plan on making any other changes, but if you want more interest, consider painting the wall behind bed using a color in the rug. Your colors and pattern mix is fine, just need to be have more of a connection. Ideas if updating: Raise curtain rod quite a bit, to draw attention to the cute peak and suggest pink curtains. Try mirror/small dresser on the empty wall and then you can center bed. Remove sconce and add three prints over bed; one hiding the mark (can reinstall when selling). Add a small second hand side table, chalk painted and a small lamp....See MoreJulie Shanker
