Why do some of you prefer shower curtain over shower door?
Comments (23)I like a shower curtain for its softness. In our previoius house, we purchased a clear glass door. It looked great and wasn't too hard to clean but we also sold the house just a few months after installing it--who knows what it looks like now after a few years. But also, a year or so ago I read an article by a guy who had his shower door shatter while he was naked and helpless. Tempered glass won't break from a direct impact on its broad side but what happens is if the track becomes worn/loose it can cause an edge impact, and then it will shatter easily. I know it is rare, but it scared the crap out of me! He stood in his shower surrounded by glass with no way out!! Yikes. I don't think a curtain necessarily makes a room feel smaller--here's our ceiling to floor shower curtain...helps make our small master bathroom feel grand :) Here is a link that might be useful: Ceiling to Floor Shower Curtain...See MoreNiche in the shower: How many did you use?
Comments (18)I used crema europa limestone for most of my shower and used a 4" border of granite (antique labrador) around the ceiling, and another 8" band of the granite around the base of the wall, and a pair of 3/4" bands of the granite 6ft up the wall. Due to the porosity of the limestone, I chose to use labrador antique on base and back of the two niches in the shower. Also, I used a slab of the labrador antique on the 5 ft bench in the shower. If you choose to use the limestone for your niche, you may want to investigate how sealants my help prevent staining. Due to my concern about staining the limestone, I used the same granite for my water closet floor and main bathroom floor as well as on the vanity's counter top and part of the backsplash. Comments (29)We recently re-did the shower in my girls' bathroom, and I have one regret: The niche is too small. With two long-haired girls, they like the large pump-bottles of shampoo and conditioner ... and that leaves only one skinny spot for one more item. They have no real space for a bar of soap. I wish they either had two niches or one looong niche. No, the niche doesn't look messy -- but because they can't fit their body wash, shaving cream, etc. into the niche, they sit it on the shower floor. The floor does look messy. Also, be very specific with the tile installer before the work is started. I chose simple 12x12 beige tiles for the wall and a smaller 2x2 square for the flooring ... it seemed obvious to me that the 2x2 would go into the niche as an accent. However, the tiler went to some trouble to cut the larger tiles "just so" so that the lines would match ... and I walked in while he was doing it. He changed the niche to the 2x2 tile, but he clearly thought it was a mistake on my part. The moral: Don't assume everyone else agrees with your choices!...See MoreWhat do you think about tiling the ceiling of the shower?
Comments (51)yep, enduring is correct, we need to leave the door open when we run the fan. But it does a great job keeping the warm air and steam in when you're taking a shower. From what I understand a true steam shower would require more waterproofing and a sloped ceiling in addition to the steam plumbing. We decided not to do all that. One thing we didn't think about -- it's pretty sound proof in there. My husband and I used to carry on conversations while one of us showered prior to the remodel. Our ceiling was high and the glass didn't go all the way up. Now the person in the shower can't hear the other person....See Morehouseofwindsor2
