I like #2 best, but if your backsplash is those narrow bands of tile, consider replacing it. That was a trend whose time is long over. The cost of a backsplash is much less than the cost of a countertop, so there's no need to stress yourself trying to match it unless you really like it. Concentrate on getting something that goes with the cabinets and flooring. Once the new counter is in look for a new backsplash. Also, before you commit to a slab, ask if they will move it out into daylight. The lighting in indoor slab yards is unlikely to be close to what you have at home and therefore the colors may look different.

IMO remove the bcksplash do not let that drive the other choices. Can you please post pics of your space .The backsplash you have is a bit dated anyway and you could just do the same as the counters .BTW I garee take samples home and IMO make sure all your lighting is LED 4000K before doing that.

Layout

If, as another poster asked, that stacked stone is your backsplash, you need something more simple than the proposed granites. The stacked stone is already busy /the star. The countertop needs to play second fiddle. Here are two examples:

As for trends, the real question is, Do you really love the backsplash? If so, don't worry about whether they're on-trend or not.

No I do not love the backsplash at all and do want to change it in the future to something more simple. If I do go with #2 what kind of backsplash? Subway tile?

I’m also afraid if my kitchen being to warm? Right now my cabinets look white with what we have but will this be too yellowish/warm?

I really wish I bought samples home. I didn’t think about it until I got home today. I want to see how it will look in my lighting. My lighting in the kitchen aren’t traditional light bulbs. They are like a bunch of tiny light bulbs in the ceiling mount. My lighting in the adjacent area is also a problem. I thought I liked daylight bulbs but I’m not so sure I do anymore. They just give off blue vibes in my opinion.

@Tara, are you really looking at granite? Be aware stone yards can re-label their slabs. For kitchen counter, select a product with 6 or 7 on the Mohs hardness scale. If you do not love the existing backsplash, please change it now - not later. If you pick a busy counter pattern, go solid on the backsplash color. There are many ways to add interest to subway tiles without color - vertical, horizontal, chevron…grid, 1/2 offset, 1/3 offset…grout color that is similar to tile color or contrasts with it. Or choose a tile with an interesting shape.

I assumed I was looking at marble. Also I googled the names of marble that I saw today and found similar.

I would def do a chevron type of subway tile or a different shape tile.

Marble is only a 4 on Mohs hardness scale. It requires a lot of maintenance in a kitchen, unless you intend to let it age with usage and spills. BTW, 4 isn’t twice as hard as 2, it means there is a stone that scores 3 in between 2 and 4.

If you choose a stone similar to the ones you posted, IMO pick a backsplash tile in same white shade as your cabinets. Then the counter will be the “filling” to the sandwhich

What I meant to add above, before accidentally hitting the Post button, is that the cabinet white looks pure white and will look very stark against the off white in the stone, so a tile in same pure white will make your material color choices look intentional. If you have a gray floor and are considering gray/black/white counter, make sure the gray in counter looks good with gray in floor. Gray can be blackish, greenish, purple-ish, or blue-ish.

I like #2 and it will look fine with current backsplash. You can still +hanger backsplash at a later date. Pick out your favorite stone, and let it drive the backsplash decision

Correction I assumed I was looking at granite. Granite is what I want. I told the person I was speaking with that I did not want marble even though I saw a nice slab. Granite as what my focus is.

The cabinets are white dove by Benjamin Moore. They aren’t a stark white. They are a little softer.

Also I’d like to add that the counters also have splashes of maroon. Those dark spots aren’t black or brown. They worried me a little but I think it looks okay. Also when doing the layout I plan to not use the section with the large splashes of maroon.

I like option 2 also and agree that it will compete with your backsplash.

What did they say the name of the granite is? If it has maroon spots in it, that sounds like granite to me rather than marble.

What's wrong with the countertops you have? I see no need to spend money on just new counters. I'd paint the walls White Dove in eggshell finish. It will brighten the kitchen and make less obvious t the cabinets do not go to the ceiling.

Put your ceiling lights on a dimmer.

Did you have a fire in the microwave?

Relook at your photos - see how white the cab door looks against each stone slab? That is what I am talking about. In a kitchen, I don’t think you really get to pick out which part of the slab gets used, I think your contractor/fabricator buys the whole slab and then cuts it into pieces to fit your counters. If you don’t want maroon flecks, then pick another product.

@mary I worked with them today. I will get to pick which side I want and based on my dimensions I can avoid the maroon area.

And yes I’m torn about a wall color. We currently have gray and the won’t work with these counters I’m sure. I never thought about using the same color for the walls. Is eggshell easy to clean?

All of those stones are absolutely beautiful, you can't go wrong with any of them in the looks department.

However, I like thinking about their hardness.

Also, does their hardness translate to their porosity and being stain-proof?

Can you buy a piece of each and take it home and do a little science experiment on each with labelled areas you smear with with lemon juice, ketchup, coffee, red wine, turmeric paste, wet coffee grounds, sharpie marker, clorox bleach, whatever you can think of.

A backsplash is optional -- and you put in something optional that you don't really love? Slow down and don't make decisions until you're sure of them.

I'd say pick the granite you really like, then put in a simple tile that'll play nicely /let the granite shine.

Look at River White Granite; well, the maroon is more like specks than splashes, but it's nice stuff.

The fire extinguishers are in the same place they were last time. It was a fire inside a frying pan. I don’t see it as a bummer. Since we’re getting a new microwave and cabinets we decided to continue with other changes. Why not
