Ginny, I can't help but chime in and say you already have one—yourself! Simple bread is simple to make. If you can just learn by rote to get your machine to do the kneading, or if you have a mixer with a dough hook, then the physical part is taken care of without having to ”exercise”. Though, for white bread, and many others, you could use a long ferment style recipe that diesn't even require kneading. Just a container (or bowl) for the dough. I have heard consistently that Zojirushi are the best bread machines, but I'd think it would be a personal thing you'd have to see for yourself as to which controls are easiest to see and use.

I have a Zojirushi breadmaker that works well, is easy to use and I have no problem reading the screen. Thrift shops quite often have breadmakers. I think some people receive them as gifts and never use or buy them thinking they are going to bake and it never happens, so they get rid of them. One of my daughters got one for a wedding gift and never used it-sold it at a garage sale.

A big bowl and a wooden spoon, some flour, yeast salt and water.

I make no knead bread and prove it in the oven before letting it do a final rise on the counter while the cast iron staub with lid on comes up to temp in the hot oven. YMMV.
