Curtain suggestion

Trying to put a curtain over this west facing arch door, which gets the foyer hot in the summer. The wall is pearl white. The door trim is black iron. The foyer wall facing the door has silver metal wall art on it. Plan to put green moss artwork onto the wall next to the stairs. What color of curtains works? floor to ceiling is just under 120 inch. Ideally, I would hang the curtains from close to the ceiling, but not sure I like the look of fabric draping onto the floor. The top of the arch to the floor is 100 inches. The shorter length 108 inch curtains would start somewhere in the middle between the ceiling and the top of the arch door. Does that lower the feel of the ceiling? Do I use a black metal iron rod to match the door trim even if the grommet is nickel? When the curtains are open, does it look odd to have a big black rod on top, which destroys the beauty of the arch? Or should I get a white rod, which blends into the white wall? But white rods tend to look plasticky. Any other smart glass door covering ideas besides curtains to preserve the beauty of the arch? Thx a million for your input!

Your home is beautiful. When I saw your doors, I was reminded of old country homes in England where draperies are installed between rooms to control drafts. Heavy (or in your case beautiful linen!) draperies on rings that can be easily swept across the space to stop drafts (or in your case, the hot sun.). It is a very chic way of dealing with the issues of old, elegant homes and, I think, would look wonderful in your home. Yes to a black metal rod between the door and the ceiling. A neutral linen….beautiful. Loose, elegant, yet modern.

Seems a shame to cover it. Would a pergola block enough light to help? Otherwise I would do drapery hung high.

If you do curtains, I’d use a black rod, absolutely not white.

Can you get a pic from further back so we can see the ceiling?

Are you in Texas? I think I see a cedar stave fence out there. :) (Or maybe iron, and I need to have my eyes checked!)

Try removing the throw pillows for a week to see if they are really needed. If you do actually use them, try some reddish pillow covers from the reddish color in the rug.

Jinx, yes, in TX. A west facing glass door gets very hot in the summer. It is a small foyer. A privacy wall (2 ft open to the ceiling) separates the arch door from the main living area.

I hear you! I’m in Tx, too, and also have a west facing front door. In triple digits, we can’t even touch the door handle.

Your doors are gorgeous. If it were me, I’d hang the rod in between the door height and ceiling height, rather than all the way to the ceiling.

Thx for your input! So helpful. Btw, for my own education, how do you decide if the curtains should go from top of the wall or in between the ceiling and the arch top? Also, any curtain color suggestions? Plain or patterned? I like contemporary or mid century modern style. Thx again! 😊

It’s really just personal preference.

I think going to the ceiling would put more focus on the curtains over the door. But that’s just opinion. :)

I’d go with solid.

West coast Hopeful: thx for your suggestion! Looking at the picture, you are right about the mat size. The whole door is 72 in wide, although only one side is frequently opened. Should I mat be as wide as the whole door?
