Kitchen sink replacement

fleurdelis_1
last year

I currently have an undermounted sink that sits within a 30½"x17" cutout in the countertop. The cabinet beneath the sink is 30". I've been told that the space will not fit a 30" sink. How can that be possible? I assume that the current sink has a lip that sits atop the cabinet, so it must be at least 31-32". Looking underneath, I can see that the sides of the cabinet have been cut about 6-8" from top down. How can I be sure of the size sink I can have installed?
