Just moved in. Looking for suggestions

We just moved in a week ago tomorrow. I have 2 rooms ready to start decorating. I am looking for suggestions on how to make the spaces amazing. I know the dog crate is an eyesore and we can definitely move it to a different space. Thanks in advance.

Post a floor plan. I think the huge TV over the FP is taking away from "amazing". What do you mean "ready to decorate"? Is all the furniture staying? Just looking for accessories? I'd start by removing the tan loveseat and replace with 2 chairs

Whoa! That tv is overpowering when it’s raised up above the fireplace.

It’s hard to understand your pictures, knowing that you stated you have two rooms. I can’t tell what’s where.

Welcome emg! Are you new to Colorado or just moved to new digs? We have 8 weeks or less of the growing season left, so if it's veggies your after, you should have time for lettuce and radishes. Without a cold frame or greenhouse, I can't think of much else you'll get a crop of before we see freezing temps. Hopefully Steve and Greg will chime in with some other choices. Maybe spinach and kale? You can plant garlic in a month or so. You can start planting perennials and trees soon, but I think it's still a little warm yet. Barb

I'm normally a proponent of leaving things alone, but in this case it doesn't look like there is much to disturb and it would be nice to see what's going on anyway. I would drain it. It would be nice if there were a big pile of sludge that once removed would increase the depth. It can get very hot where I am in 7b and fish might not survive in less than a foot of water and would likely freeze solid under some winter conditions. If depth cannot be increased, I suspect fish would be a very bad idea. Yes, a bunch of potted plants in the shallow water, a bunch of acquarium under water plants tossed in the deeper water (don't collect them and carry them to warm mediteranian climes to contaminate the whole sea, they grow super well even in zone 7b so they are verboten in natural environments), and nice plants on the edges that soften the edge would look nice, give shade, and create a hopefully good pond environment. Water flow would give aeration and help plants filter the water. However, again, the low volume might be an issue from over heating or cooling that could be increased by flow.

No window boxes. Your question about where to put them suggests you are not a gardener. Window boxes will require that you spend a couple of hundred dollars every spring for annuals to plant them up, unless you have the space and light to start your own plants from seed. You will be watering them once a day EVERY DAY. Boxes on the second floor will require you to lug cans of water so you can water them from inside the house through the windows. I don’t even know how you would water the big center window as it appears to be stationary. Nice looking window boxes are expensive, the little plastic ones you buy at walmart are hideous. I love windows boxes, I think they are beautiful if done well and kept healthy. I’m taking the four boxes off the front of my house this year because I don’t want to lug water and they are going to start rotting out the siding.

Thanks for your suggestions! Yes the fireplace is working and unfortunately I think the TV is too big to put on the fireplace (it sticks out at the end, is that okay?). As for the dining table, there is no real space behind the bar stools. That is the entrance to our home and it's just a narrow hallway. The other thing I'm worried about with putting the TV where it is now is that the space behind the couch feels under-utilized... Sorry, 2 different rooms. The pictures with the white couch and chairs is one room by the front door and the pictures with the fireplace and the brown couch and love seat is the family room off the kitchen at the back of the house.

I’m not a huge fan of the huge tv either. I think it’s much too big. Would like to put something smaller there. My husband likes the big tv.

Your first room is lovely! Add floor length curtains, some lamps, some art over the fuzzy chairs, maybe a plant or two, and you are done! In the family room, the big TV needs to move - it's way too big to put over the fireplace. Can you rearrange the furniture and then hang the TV on one of the walls? Post a pic once that's done and we can help you accessorize then.
