Want to view Safavieh rugs in person before ordering online
Comments (7)We've had a Safavieh rug in the foyer at our vacation place in the mountains for over 15 years. It still looks great. We bought it at Orvis - and no one suspects that it's made out of poly. Did you go to Saravieh's web site? You can select dealer locator and type in your zip code - maybe someone near you carries the one you want. We just bought 2 polypropylene area rugs on sale at Macy's for our enclosed porch. I've also seen them at the big box stores. This post was edited by maire_cate on Sat, Jan 18, 14 at 17:02...See MoreCan this rug work here?
Comments (23)bungalow and squirrel, thank you for the kind words. I mentioned in another post that we spent a fortune getting the front window made to match a picture of the original the PO's had left us (a large picture window had been installed in the 60's). I stained it myself to match the rest of the woodwork. And yes, the walls were really dark. I just painted them (Lancaster whitewash fr. BM) over the holidays. We really wanted the woodwork to pop and more of a cottagey feeling for the room in general. So far I love it. Anele, I'm so glad to hear you think it looks cozy. I was afraid by going so light on the walls that it would be cold. When the new chairs come, we will try turning the rug and moving things around....See MoreAny rug experts here?
Comments (12)The backs of handmade rugs can be quite sharp. Notice some of the wavy red lines on the back. Machine-made rugs will likely have much straighter lines. I once asked my cousin, who was stationed in Saudi Arabia and had bought some beautiful rugs while there, if a hand-made rug I was buying here was worth the asking price. I loved the rug. He replied that buying a rug was an emotional experience and only I could know. He was right. That was 25 years ago, and I still have a twinge of pleasure every time I look at the rug. Comments (23)Very nice, prickly pear, thanks! Are you a "rug person" or devotee? You definitely got the brown and off-white stripe aspect, and the design is closer than what I found. It is a dear thing, although DH is wondering what we'll do with it because it's clearly never seen a floor (was it ever even finished in the first place?) -- maybe we'll hang it on one of these double-height walls we've got...I have a pretty cool rya rug hanging already with many of these same colors...wonder if they'd like each other... I learned that there is an excellent Persian rug cleaner/restorer here in my town (one of the best in the country, I'm told) -- I think I'm going to take it to them to find out whatever I can from someone seeing it IRL, too. Thanks!...See Morecyn427 (z. 7, N. VA)
