Please Help Me Decorate a Room Based on a Rug!! :-)
Comments (8)Well, Monablair beat me to it. Red is a neutral. It goes with everything. So, pick the next thing you like...artwork, pretty fabric for a side chair, whatever, and go from there. I wouldn't do dark brown, but that's because I like clear colors. Looks like you do too. If you go with warm tones, throw in a little something cool to give it balance. Same with depth. If you go with dark colors, put something light in there to give the eye some variety. I happen to like red and pale blue together, a la Cath Kidston. I think a washed denim for a family room would be nice with that rug. Or a khaki color. Some kind of green on the walls and some apple green or turquoise accents for a little fun. Here is a link that might be useful: Cath Kidston does up red and pale blue!...See MoreRug and Decorator help for Industrial/farmhouse living room
Comments (13)I have a pretty good imagination but industrial/farmhouse I cannot conceive of. Which of the two does "Pharmacie" represent or the giant D teetering on the edge of the mantel? I don't mean to be offensive, but the letter and word trend is one I never understood. A beautiful painting in one of many styles (and hung lower) would satisfy the eye more, methinks. I gather we're not allowed to suggest colors for pillows or rugs, or curtain panels, so I'm pretty much out of my element. I can envision the first and third rug there to help with all the dark colors, though. I'm curious how one cleans the one with the leather strips. I can imagine many cats being in seventh heaven with that one, though, or teething puppies....See MoreLiving room decor with grey sofa and blue rug
Comments (4)I think you are off to a good start! If nothing can be returned then keep them and work with them....I think the lamps and end tables are a bit light feeling for what you have; steel and wood might have been a more casual choice, but as you have all the basics in place then concentrate on getting a large log console with closed storage to hide clutter. A large piece of art over the wall opposite the fireplace would be nice incorporating all the colors aleady in the rooom....grey, orange, brown, white, silver, and turquoise....and make it about 2/3 width of the sofa length; bigger is better....try Cost plus old world market, Marshalls, Home Goods, or the store where you bought the furniture.....and you could try to return the tables in exchange for the metal and steel end tables and a different round cocktail table. A round mirror would be nice over the fireplace....get to that point and Houzzers will be happily helping you....here are some pics for inspiration Round wood cocktail table with different end tables Large art the right size and hung at the correct height contrast cocktail table Large art and also arc lamp fluffy area rug like yours! MIrror over fireplace High contrast mirror over fireplace; plus some greenery! Hope these suggestions are appealing to you...study placement of rugs, art heigh, lamp height etc in rooms....lots of great design ideas...See MoreNewly installed gray carpet looks purple - Help me decorate!
Comments (2)I was thinking maybe something like a navy or lighter blue may work. I really am not a purple fan and have no purple in the rest of my house so I want to avoid that. We have 2 dogs that shed a lot so a darker shade of blue may not work well for us. I'll have to look through some inspirational photos with navy couches to see if I like the look anyway!...See Moreloobab
