Posting photos with the intital post used to be a problem. It has been a while but at the time I did wonder if the comment could be posted then edited to add a photo. Only other alternative at that time was to post as a second comment. You did manage to post a picture with the initial post.

Aww - gotta love those whiskers & eyebrows!

And you need to resize your photos in an application. Check the menu when you open one. My Preview app menu, which is my default app for opening images, shows 'Tools' and an option to 'Adjust Size'.
