What flooring would look good in this kitchen and bathroom?

This is in a cabin style home with mostly wood accents. linoleum is down now. what would you recommend to replace this linoleum?

Both of these floors appear to be in good condition and are good colors for the cabinets. What is motivating you to want a change? Are you going to change the cabinets as well? For the kitchen, are you able to extend the flooring in the adjacent room into the kitchen?

What is the flooring next to the kitchen? As for the bathroom I agree what you have is perfect for the other things in the space . Change for just the sake of change is not IMO good value for your money.

Hey Gibby -- 6 x 10 bath here [finally demo'd last week!] and I know that my size isn't even that small. I've been on the lookout for 3 or so years and it's been surprisingly difficult to find ideas. Aside from "recess whenever possible," of course! There's the "monochromatic = more spacious" school of thought but IMO there are alternative ways to lead the eye around the room and create interest in a small space. Things to consider: * color / color contrast * the lines of an object (round vs square) * judicious use of oversized scale * having some consistency with eyelines/sightlines of your vertical elements Here are some of the apparently-smaller baths I've found that put at least one of the above into action: We're adapting this built-into-doorway cab for our bath -- ours will be built out from the wall, perpendicular to the sink, and serve as a med cabinet. I'd use a wall-hung if this were a full bath, but I do love this! [Note horizontal cladding] I was involved in this [5 x 8 with TWO doors!] bath: Grabbed space from kitchen to make this 15" cubby: IMO one of the biggest challenges with small baths is to create negative space that serves to set off what IS in the room. In our case, we splurged a bit on a demilune/semicircle vanity instead of a square or rectangular one -- given our bowling alley dimensions, it helps carve out some pleasing curves. However, having lived in a place where the tiny wall-hung sink, toilet, and clawfoot were all accessible from one spot I know negative space is sometimes non-existent! I've enjoyed the book below, which has a mix of sizes and lots of materials in it --"ideas for tiny half-baths, medium-size his-and-hers, and large, luxurious home spas. All gorgeous and very generous of you all to share to help the uncreative types here (like moi) learn what is possible. Lindy I love your current bathroom - the floor and particularly the way the shower and bath are- I have a similar layout and envisioned what you did but had not quite seen it. Lindy- how do you like living with the floor you have now? It is really attractive.I am going to see if I can find it or something like it.

Hi Christine! A fleshy pink would look great with that vanity and counter top. Cappuccino is another great shade you could use, too. Either color will bring out the respective colors of your beautiful vanity cab, and that quartz top. I've included samples of both shades below. I like the vanity a lot. The sconces have a bit of an old-timey, steam-punk look to them...the sort of vessels you'd have seen in a late 1800's science laboratory. But...the mirror....it looks dated by today's standards yet still too modern to have anything to do with the vanity and sconces. I'd pick a rectangular mirror with some sort of frame...no bevel or corner clips.

There is some bubbling in the linoleum from a leaky faucet and some staining that is not to visible in the images.

I don't have plans to change the cabinets now. I did think about painting them. I think it would be hard to match the wood flooring that is there since it was put in many many years ago. Also, it is not waterproof, so would be concerned about it getting wet.

The flooring next to it is laminate wood. The bathroom floor is fine, but since changing the kitchen, I thought it may be good to change both.

The contract recommends a wood style laminate. He is not a designer for sure. I would love to have your opinions on what to put here.

The rule is to never put artificial wood next to real wood. The fake wood looks extra bad in those circumstances. That being said, there is tile look laminate. I assume he wants to install the new flooring over the old? Watch if they do that that you don't get your appliances trapped such that they can't be removed to be serviced or replaced. The previous owners of our house did that (no doubt unintentionally), and it happened to a friend of mine. If it were me I would get new porcelain tile, especially in the bathroom. Laminate is not waterproof the way real tile is. And if they are going to remove your vanity to redo the tile you might as well get a new one. That would also give you more options as far as which tile you choose.

Right now you have warm colors and warm colors are coming back in style again, so no need to do gray unless you like it. If you decide to paint your kitchen cabinets that opens up a lot of possibilities as well, so think about what you want to do. There are many different shades of neutrals available in tile. Bring home several samples and see what you like. You can always update your post with pictures of your samples if you need more help.

Since this is a cabin I would be looking for something that looks like stone flooring, either LVT or stone look tile. Slate, flagstone, sandstone . . .
