What color should I paint my kitchen
Comments (63)Les is right. Our house is an 11 year old Lennar spec home. Although the house was not built well, the cabinets are in very good shape and we're only planning on staying here another 7 years. We are going to build our next house so we can make sure it really has everything we want. I don't want to change the complete look of my kitchen because I want it to flow with the rest of the house. I originally wanted white cabinets but when he came into the house he looked at my kitchen and said he would paint them oatmeal with a glaze. I didn't and still don't know what that color is and what it will look like. I order every piece of free literature on houses for my design book when we build so I know what I want going in. I just happened to be looking at the catalog and saw oatmeal glaze and I don't know that I like it with the colors I have in my kitchen. I searched for oatmeal cabinet colors last night on the forum just so I have an idea of what it is going to look like but I didn't have any luck. If anyone has cabinets that are painted oatmeal with glazing, may I see a picture please?...See MoreWhat color should I paint my (modern) kitchen?
Comments (7)Thanks for the input. As of now it's still in the planning/construction phase. The floors, cabinets, furniture, etc. aren't in yet. Maybe "contemporary" is a better word to describe the look we want as opposed to "modern". Not really looking for the colorful plastics look; more of a sleek, minimal, almost art gallery look. The cabinets are going to be full overlay slab. We're still undecided on the backsplash. I've thought about stainless steel, but it may be out of our budget. If we wind up going with the black counters, I plan on having a vertical run of black stone behind the range and chimney hood. I'll try to post some photos later, but like I said at the moment it's just sheetrock and subfloors. Here's an image of the floorplan if that helps. The doorway opens up into the living room (also unfinished). Living room is almost the same size of the kitchen/DR. The major focuses in that room are a brick fireplace on the east wall; a fairly large window on the north wall; and a nice size skylight in the center. Am considering painting the wall with fireplace (east) and the west wall in the dining room the same color to try to tie those spaces together but I'm not sure if painting those walls darker would be a good idea since the fireplace and floors are dark and it's a fairly small space....See MoreWhat color 'white' should I use to paint my kitchen cabinets?

Comments (8)Stainless steel for sure. It's a standard, not going away anytime soon, and you can mix and match appliance manufacturers the easiest with it, especially a few years down the line when one appliance breaks and a special finish isn't being offered anymore and then you have mismatched appliance finishes. Slate locks you in to GE (nothing against GE, but you may not want every appliance to be from them), and black stainless is a coating that can scratch and expose the traditional stainless steel underneath it. Fingerprint resistant stainless steel is usually a coating and can have the same issue, but you won't see it like you will with black stainless....See Morekpiazzale
