Mtn, I collect vintage Two’s Company glass trinket dishes that are reverse painted glass. I use them as bread plates at Christmas, Valentine’s Day and on Easter. They are more rectangular than the ones from Caspari.

This won't fit into a stocking but I have to show you what DS1 got for DGD who's 12, and will be in 7th grade next year. Kind of cute story, but her parents have every item she needs when her menses begin so DS got her a saddle bag from Coach with a compartment for such things.

@localeater, I love the keyboard goop-- but apparently it has a shelf life! I took mine out last week to clean my keyboard and it didn't stick together in a "wad" at all. It was loose and sticky and I had it wrapped around all my fingers! At least it didn't make it to the keyboard!

For new and developing cooks ... I discovered these Thai for Two kits on the Milk Street store site but have since found them on their site Verve Culture and also the big river. They will fit in a decent size stocking .. no experience with them myself but the ratings are very high across all sites. There are a number of options from Tom Yum soup to Pad Thai to various curries.

Verve Culture has a number of other fun and interesting gift options for Moroccan, Thai, Mexican and Italian cooking-- tools, spices, sauces, etc. And @mtnrdredux_gw a number of truffle products too!

@Funkyart - thanks for the Thai kit idea - those look fun. I'm going to get them for DH, so he can cook me dinner one night :) And I also picked up two initial bags for nieces I do give gift cards too. Those are cute!

I went with the ever boring smart wool socks for DH and DS who have the coldest feet around. DS is particularly hard to shop for, as he does just want consumables or nothing. Luckily he doesn't care, but with just the three of us and no real gifts, Christmas morning is kind of a bore.

I can't decide what I think about that silver refinishing. I'll have to ask my DH about that, as it is his family's pass downs. But that is really fun. I might try to talk him into a piece. It's kind of scary though, but it would be more useful than just sitting in cupboards. But, it also doesn't look like a silver piece any more. I just don't know what to think:)

@Funkyart and @legomom23: I love the idea of the Thai meal kits and I love even more the idea of giving one or two to DH! My DH likes to help with the cooking, but his need for precise instructions from me throughout the process gets a little, er, frustrating. I think we would really enjoy conjuring up a dinner with one of these kits. And we both love Thai food.

Legomom, I have been thinking about it too. I used to work near Tepper Galleries in NYC, and I bought a lot of itemss there. Sometimes they were sold as lots and I ended up with extra silver pieces I did not choose. I can see doing this.

I have the same thoughts, @legomom23. I don't have any fine family silver so that makes it easy for me. I'd probably pick up something second hand or one of her vintage finds. I do think they are fun and so pretty.

I bought the Thai kits from Verve Culture directly and they sent a shipping notification an hour later. That's better than some of the larger shops (talking to YOU Garnet Hill and Sundance Catalog!)

I have come up with all sorts of ways I would/could use the painted pieces.. on my mantle, on my vanity, for outdoor dining/decor .. there are many colors to alter the vibe (though I found myself wanting even more colors LOL).

Had a thought the other night of something that would be PERFECT for stockings: reusable lunch cutlery sets! I am loving this one from Sistema, which is very compact and comes with a knife, fork, spoon, and chopsticks.. but I am sure there are others! Super cute and great for people who pack their lunches.
