UPDATE: 4 for 4 Plant Swap, 2 packs of seeds, w/ a bonus! :-)
Comments (40)I got a nice package today from Tina. It had some houseplant starts and some bulbs, which I hopefully will plant on Sunday as it is supposed to be nice, although snow tonight! Yuck :0 There were some nice goodies in ther for my house, candle and some fabulous incense which I am burning right now! A bulb hole digger, and some seeds, baggies and plant markers too! And a magazine for my downtime when feeding my baby, yipee :) Thanks Tina, no worries about taking longer, stuff happens, and I loved my package! Hope things are better for your family, loss of a loved one is all consuming, and I hope you are feeling better. Steph...See MoreWhat would you do with a bonus room?
Comments (26)Judy, I haven't carefully read all the messages (stuck with old glasses), so I hope I haven't got this wrong. I totally get the commercial ready bakery. If you can do that, great! But would you really want no oven in the main kitchen? Even if you don't anticipate selling your house, things happen and plans change... And is it even allowable by code not to have an oven there? If you don't do the commercial kitchen, I would hesitate to move the baking there. When I'm baking, especially bread, I want wide open spaces. I can prep veg for an army on a 24"x30" counter with no trouble, but one of the reasons I put an island (though very small) back in my own plan is to have a nice open space for shaping loaves and pastry. I can prep veg against a wall, but love having a view when baking. So I wouldn't want to be in a little room if it didn't have another attraction like the health certificate, especially with such a beautiful, open kitchen to be in. So I'd be doing all the baking tasks in the kitchen and schlepping the loaves, trays, etc., into the baking room. For alternatives: In an old fashioned house that room might be a "flower room", not so much for potting, but for arranging flowers, storing vases and baskets, maybe cleaning dirt off of vegetables. Also keeping garden boots, gloves, apron, hat, i.e., mudroom. Or it might be a gun room, but I don't think you have coverts, right? It sounds like you have a lot of storage, but I like the larder idea. A spare fridge. A freezer. Pantries. Etc. Or you could use it as a "lumber" room, that is a place for suitcases, spare bicycles, etc. All the dumped stuff you've been warned against. The trick is to start out with shelving, hooks, slatwall, etc., for organizing whatever comes in, as it comes in, so that it doesn't become a horror....See MoreHelp with bonus room layout
Comments (5)I decided to put this room aside and concentrate on other parts of the house. I got super frustrated with it, LOL! This last week I went up there and decided to try again. First thing I did was commit to the project! I was going to pick a color and stick to it and not be afraid! I ended up looking online and found a room that was painted a beautiful navy blue and was accented with bright white. The room was gorgeous and didn’t look dark in the picture. I told myself that’s the color I want which is SW Naval 6244! I committed to it and there’s no going back. I spent all day yesterday painting. I love it! I just need to pick a white to go with it now. I have a new question. How long should that curtain be for that horizontal window? Ceiling to floor or just fit it to the window? I’m also going to put white wood blinds. I found a cute pair of panels that are navy and white striped, would that be to much? Or should I just get basic white curtains or maybe a pop of color like red or gold? Any advice y’all can offer would be much appreciated!...See MorePlanning for future bonus room in new house construction
Comments (14)We did what you are contemplating but thought we would save money and tax Bill. It was less expensive and we designed HVAC to be easy add later. I put loads of electricals so we had flexibility down the road. That was less cost to do at construction. Certain fire code items were needed as well. Truthfully, that was about 2/3 of the cost. So, we saved but then when we finished off that was cash out of pocket. So it’s a choice. If I had it to do again, I would do it all at initial build. Ours was 750 sq ft heated/cool space. And I wouldn’t have had the mess after moving in. Getting sheetrock up to second floor was messy! Good luck....See MoreKW
