Double convection ovens or single and a steamer oven?
Comments (10)Megan, you realize if you get this stuff, you'll be obligated to cook/host every big family meal + Thanksgiving for the rest of your life, right? ;-) Just kidding! I cook with a little Oster steamer almost every single day. I'm vegetarian, so I can steam veggies and rice, and if my daughter is here I can throw in a salmon steak for her. I can't even imagine the luxury of a steam oven! My house and my needs are much less than yours, but if I go with a regular sized range, I'm looking at one with an induction cook top and a combo regular/convection oven. I also want to get an oven hood that is a combo microwave/2nd convection oven. It's by far the most I'll ever need. But in your case, you mentioned your family is very large, and it sounds like there are a lot more get-togethers than just Thanksgiving? Based on what our fellow commenters said, I'd vote for option 1 because it sounds like those who have experience are saying it would be sufficient even for your big Thanksgiving. I also love Mrs. Pete because she always has very practical suggestions. Do you have teenagers or kids who will become teenagers? Then I'd recommend option 1 even more strongly because if warming drawers had existed when my kids were teenagers I/they would have used it every day! It seems like maybe you're having some anxiety around this because it's an expensive purchase and you don't want to get the wrong thing. You know your household and your immediate and extended family, and you know how often you'll be called upon to use all of those things at once. Just listen to your gut. You'll make the right decision, I'm sure! :-)...See Morestacked Combi steam and convection- eye level or what?
Comments (2)I am 5'3" and I have a combi steam over full size convection. Mine are placed so that the rack of the combi steam is comfortable. Thought process was that I would be using the combi most of all and wanted it to be easy. I think the top of the oven stack is 58". I went around to various showrooms and pulled out the racks of the shelves. When I found what I considered comfortable, I measured the shelf height and replicated it into my plans....See MoreReplace Microwave/toaster oven with speed oven/convection microwave?
Comments (22)So, make a niche(s) with the proper electric service and size to have a built-in put in if you really need it to sell (but I bet you won't)--if you're planning to sell within three years, get the built-ins already, but otherwise, they're going to be just so many used appliances. If yours are truly ratty, you can buy new versions of each. If you WANT a speed oven, and intend to use it as such, that's another story. Go for it! Read through the manuals, etc. But I think you'll find that it's not at all the same thing as your Breville toaster oven. You can use the convection oven settings on a speed oven to perform some of the same functions, but it's a real oven, with limitations, not a toaster that tap dances. I sometimes use my speed oven the way others use a toaster oven--mainly for heating up frozen appetizers or reheating casseroles when other ovens are full, but my old (dead) toaster oven was beloved for making great toast, which a speed oven isn't, and not for other uses. I do zap sandwiches on MW mode, and once in awhile lightly defrost or melt, but if I used a microwave more, I wouldn't have such an expensive machine doing it. I agree with putting enough thought into a remodel that it won't limit resale, because you never know what the future will bring--thus make sure there's place for built-ins to be built into--but unless it's a flip, it should be designed for your own use and enjoyment, and you used the key words "heavily use" and "love"....See MoreHas anyone hacked Ikea 24" tall cabs for 24" oven?
Comments (12)We bought the high cabinet itself without the doors, just the outer box. We used drawers at the bottom, and used a shelf to form the surface to sit the coffee system on, and another shelf to create the top of the coffee system area. The whole cabinet had to be notched to fit around some structure (the landing of the stairs leading upstairs). At ikea you may need the assistance of one of the kitchen dept employees to put the order together for the cabinet without the typical fittings. To be honest our GC dealt with the ikea order part, but I do remember him saying that if you sit down with them in-store they can customize the order list so that you’re only getting the parts you want....See Morejust_janni
