free software visual

Frustrated…what free design software allows one to drop & drag or customize a floorplan by utilizing pictures of products from any site to actually see how the colors & patterns will coordinate? I want to see how backsplash, custom stove glass backsplash, tile, quartzite countertops and flooring will look? I want to play with options showing actual products vs stock photos or drawings or a physical storyboard. I will have a bold barn door as shown opposite the kitchen open floorplan and wanna balance everything out.

IMO a story board is the best way to see how elemnts look not only together but in your space .I often use them for clients that can't quite imagine what I am planning. IMO no barn door on a bedroom or bathroom

The basic version, SketchUp Make, is free. SketchUp Pro is $590. The primary drawback if you download SketchUp Make is that you cannot export your model in different file formats but you can print what is on the screen. We use a design program from Structure Studios. Pool Studio is one of their programs which can generate plan view, 3D and a "fly through" renderings. You could call them and ask if their is someone in your area who has purchased their product. As a pro designer, I never rely on photos or storyboards. The only way to truly know how everything will coordinate is with physical samples. Photos are often color-corrected and, especially with natural stone products, will rarely show the variation inherent in the material. See if you can purchase samples of each item. For the quartzite, take the other samples to the stone yard to check in person. See if you can get a sample of the quartzite to take home with you to confirm the color under your lighting conditions and to test for staining and etching.

Well good to know I am looking for a software beast that doesn’t exist for cheap. If I wanted to explore to invest in said software what are the top 5 out there?

Owner is insistent on the big barn door but nixed the bedroom one. Here is one of three she is deciding upon.

I have samples of all paint, trim, flooring, tile, quartzite etc…the place is close to done. I thought about giving her the floorplan/specs I drew up on a package I had a trial of in addition to a physical storyboard as a gift upon completion…just figured tech had gotten to the masses for actual digital product selections go into the floor plans & 3D views/walkthru’s like real estate companies utilize these days such as MatterPort.

These are the three she is considering in addition to a custom version of such. Two shown in singles for example only as will be a double bypass 42x84 slabs.

This is the client’s secondary home…the remodel of the million+ big house on Lake Superior requires at least an architect but unsure if I will have a project role or not. I realize interior designers have valuable skills and knowledge but not everyone wants to go that route even if they have the money. I have incentive to keep my friend on-budget and cost savings.

Btw I have done fine with my own home only hiring interior design by the contract hr as needed vs handing over the entire project. Perhaps the design industry is shrinking a bit as many women want to do it this way or completely themselves?

While no one wants to waste their (or their spouse's) hard-earned money, as Sophie Wheeler used to say here, people don't know what they don't know.

Surely you have seen some execrably decorated houses whose owners proudly exclaim, "I did it all myself!"

You would not believe the varied professionals that are told, "You charge so much and you are only talking!"
