I have four...love them. I had read something about they were more difficult to repair, but I haven't had that experience.

I considered Toto but did some research and ended up buying 2 of these. I never thought of American Standard as being a quality brand, but they are very highly rated and I LOVE them. I was warned away from buying them at a big box store (some claim that lots of plumbing fixtures are dumbed down for HD, etc. I don't know if that's true, but I ordered mine thru the plumber and they came from Ferguson. It has the easy to clean hidden trap but also has a power flush feature that keeps the bowl really clean. We only have Toto toilets....look for the ones with the "pee dam" just before the tank for easier cleaning. And love the no-slam toilet seats.

I have three Totos in my house. They were recommended by my plumber. No problems with any of them so far.

Toto is a well-known, respected brand. They're recommended by Terry Love, who runs a plumbing forum and sometimes posts in the Bathroom forum here.

We have two of the basic models and they've been fine. They have a powerful flush and don't clog. I haven't liked plastic toilet seats in the past but theirs is very high quality.

I have a Toto and its fine. Get comfort height, and get soft close seat. You will love both. Elongated bowl is nice too.

Yes, and I love mine. We put Kohler in our house when we buil, and they are great, but when we remodeled our main bath we put in a Toto. Love it and will replace the others with one as needed.

We put toto toilets in when we renovated our house in 2010 and had no issues. Lost that house in a fire in 2020 and will be putting the same ones back in, as well as their sinks.

We did look at American Standard this time around but we liked the available sizes of the Toto better. One of our bathrooms is very tight on space and that drove our choice.

Toto used to be considered builder-grade, it's fine. Then they entered the up-scale market.

Do consider height of toilet too. They make some higher which is easier to get onto and up off of, but I'm short and find them uncomfortable when I'm seated. I prefer the standard height. Also consider the rounded vs. elongated bowl. The latter is supposed to be more sanitary, but the former takes up less space.

I have a Toto, and find it kind of hard to clean the bowl.

Annie, I'm only 5' 1" myself and wondered how much higher the chair height was and if it would be uncomfortable.

I've had 2 in past homes, and they were good. It was a good looking, small profile toilet that I never had a repair problem with. It's a toilet - I can't say I love Toto, but I didn't have any problems with them either.

We put a Toto in the second bath 14 years ago. Hasn't needed repair, but the plastic seat had to be replaced a couple years ago.

I considered Toto for a bath remodel, but went with this American Standard tankless toilet instead. It is onsale until December 6th. The toilet is connected to the water line directly and has a powerful flush using only one gallon of water per flush. So far, no issues at all. I am 5'3'' tall and the higher height is no problem for me. One note is that the manufacturer says to clean the seat and cover with soap and water, not any harsh cleansers. So far, still shiny. I love the look and easy to clean the lower part of the toilet with the smooth surface all around. Seeing that it is on sale, I think I wil order another now for the next bathroom redo.

American Standard

Both the stool and the blue are for my 4-year-old granddaughter who loves blue and commented that she prefers dark blue to this one-lol. Oh and she does not need the stool to get onto or off of the toilet; it is for washing her hands afterwards.

Kathsgrden - my BIL is 6'7" and they put high rise toilets in their main residence, beach house and one more a few years ago. His wife is 5'2" like me and both of us find them comfortable. You might just find you like them - I do and do not find them too high for comfort.

Nicole, my plumber likes the toilet you showed with your link. Who knew - he hates one piece toilets. I have three one piece that are vintage elongated Kohler, color coordinated to the rest of the fixtures in my vintage tiled baths. Everything is clean and well done so I've stalled on any remodeling of them...there has just seemed to be more important life things to deal with than the inconvenience of tearing out bathrooms for reason of colors.

Not quite 20 years ago when we did a full-on house remodel, both the general contractor and the plumber sub suggested we get Totos. They were the first with a so-called power flushing mechanism (really mostly a siphon on steroids approach) and so we got a number of them. All these years later, just the few most used have needed valve and flapper replacements. They remain attractive and very functional.

Just a few years ago at a second home we have in a different region, the excellent plumber we'd used for some other things said when asked that American Standard, long a laggard in his view, had upped its game and he viewed it now as on a par with Toto. We wound up getting two Am Standards with the higher seat level and one Toto at regular level, needed because it's under a counter extension. Both with elongated bowls, the only way to go. Happy with these also.

This plumber, a highly rated guy who's always booked out a week for other than emergencies, said to stay away from Kohler toilets, he'd had nothing but problems with them.

We have Kohlers and they have worked fine. The most recent-a replacement for the additional hieght has some sort of super flush.

Anyway I was amused because the thing that originally brought me to Garden Web back in the 90's was a link a friend had sent me about toilets...exploding or somesuch. Dark ages

Both my current toilets are Kohlers and are about 12 years old and have only had to replace the inside peices. I just dislike the sides and having to try and clean them. I'm only replacing mine since I have to redo the entire bathroom, although, I may have to have the other one pulled up because of water damage under the tile around it. Thanks for all of your opinions. It's very helpful.

@Elmer...toilets don't vary that much. Toto is fine. So is Standard or any other brand. But...I'm NOT paying $600-$800 for a toilet! That's just me.
