LVP: What wear layer rating for large dogs?
Comments (15)@ Bigrednole - I'm interested in the Sand/refinish quote. As a rule of thumb a full sand and refinish (including stain) should run $5/sf (might be a snick more if you go with the HEAVY DUTY Bona Traffic HD or Loba 2K Supra AT). But not by much (maybe $1 more per square foot). A $3.50 LVP is midrange quality. Some of the best products run $4.99 - $6.99/sf. Those are the one's with a rigid WPC core and 20mil wear layer (which is the BEGINNING of a good wear layer). To install LVP you should be adding $2.50 - $3/sf for labour to INSTALL. This does NOT include subfloor preparation. You will need to add on for the LVP install: 1. Removal of hardwood floors - $2-$3/sf for removal and dumping fees 2. Subfloor preparation (sanding/filling/sanding and repairing) $2-$4/sf ($2/sf is most common) 3. Removal and replacement of baseboards/adding shoe or quarter round ($1-$2/ linear foot) The TOTAL cost of your $3.50/sf LVP: $3.50/sf material + $2 removal of hw + $2/sf subfloor prep + $2.50/sf install labour + $1/lf trim = $10/sf + cost of trim/mouldings At the end of the day, there is NO WAY a hardwood sand and refinish ($5-$7/sf at most) will be TRIPLE the cost of install of LVP. There is just no way a full sand and refinish of a wood floor (assuming the wood is fully intact and no additional repairs are needed) would cost. That would put the cost of refinishing the hardwood at $30 per square foot. I'm sorry but I just don't see that happening. What is the actual quote for your hardwood and what is the square footage of your hardwood?...See MoreHard rain caused water pools on top of LVP
Comments (3)Call your insurance company before you touch anything. And then time to pull up the floor and have a look. Vinyl plank (as in a single plank) is water proof. The click edges are not. The stuff underneath is not. And the edges at the walls are not. This needs further investigation. If the puddle was near a window, door, sky light, etc the item needs to be repaired. It is *possible you have some sort of coverage against 'bad' repair work on a home. Check with your realtor. They will have a strong understanding of what the former owners are responsible for and for how long....See MoreHELP! Wood look tile downstairs and LVP upstairs or all LVP
Comments (5)@Ana Gutierrez: It’s least worth your time to research engineered wood. It’s not as expensive as people think and many handy homeowners are able to install it. It also goes over some types of existing floors. It looks the richest, especially if a medium brown is your preference. Laminate floors are the least durable and the worst in a wet climate. Any flooding, even a little, will ruin it. Luxury vinyl tile gets great reviews. The better products look more like wood than laminates. All of these can be bought in planks that are not hard to install. Tile, as was well pointed out, is ridiculously expensive and hardest on your back. Most vinyl will survive the dogs pretty well. I know a family with two Rhodesian Ridgebacks who installed luxury vinyl in the bedroom and bathroom of their twins’ suite. The mother wishes she had a reason to put it around the whole house. Do your research. Ask questions at flooring places so someone knowledgeable can answer about durability and dog-nail scratching. You can shop for bargains after you get all the information together. Don’t go to big box stores yet....See MoreNeed help selecting LVP! but also LVP vs Bamboo flooring??
