FWIW our house has alternating sections of off-white stucco and off-white, oversized, rough brick. EIFS houses are a hard sell in my area, bringing much less than real stucco, brick, stone. Too many buyers associate EIFS with poorly applied finishes that permitted mold and rot. I used to see it a lot on commercial strip mall buildings.

I've looked all over the internet and haven't found much information on this. We are remodeling an office building and were originally going to knock down half the brick veneer to create a wainscot. We discovered that no tie backs were uses so the bricks were not secure and had to take them down and decided to install stone. It's a 4" chopped Oklahoma natural stone. We are doing a dry stack look and I'm trying to figure out how to best install it for safety and durability. We live in central Texas. We have hot and humid weather concerns. Do we need to use ties and create an air gap and weep holes? If so, how does it get mortared for a dry stack look? Or do we need to use metal lathe and adhere stone directly to tyvek material? I've seen a mason set one stone on top of the others, take a trowel filled with mortar, "throw" it behind the stone, smooth around the back edge and continue with additional stone. Is this an acceptable method of install since the stone is a large stone and is more dense than a limestone so less likely to soak up water? Thanks!

thanks! grey-greens now that's an idea, I will look into it! nothing is really finished yet but I'll try and post a good shot of the kitchen and bathroom soon. the pink bathroom was definitely what clinched the place for me!

Your stone is a beautiful color. I would not paint it. You should consider painting the rest of the house as well as the garage door. The posts on your porch need a bit of beefing up. Can you replace the posts with cedar or have them wrapped in wood? Find a color that you like in the stone face and paint the house that color. Then you have a starting point to look for an accent color to paint the trim and the shutters. Also, changing the light fixtures would give this house a needed update. Something with straighter lines would work better with your architecture.
