Comments (28)Connie Can't Have It has never done anything here, so Connie can have it as far as I am concerned. Sometimes, things actually do better north of here, but we certainly have snow cover now. Change of Heart --I think this is a super plant. Of course, it grows at the estate where it gets lots of sun. Very reliable. Comanche Drums Catastrophe Waitress --doesn't like hot sun Cup of Cold Water --not a fast increaser Christopher Hitchens --lovely, but moderate increase. Nice later one, but could be a tad taller. Cherokee Star --good grower and brilliant in late midseason Cloud Rider --has grown from a single fan Clash of Absolutes --excellent color, but plant not so good Cradle of Bethlehem --Got a bad plant years ago, but is now showing its stuff. I was surprised. Carrick Wildon --very bright Carolina Dale --stands out in garden, but bud count won't leave you breathless Curtis Montgomery --will probably not amount to much here. It took a long time just to bloom. Chicago Girls --pictured in a pot; too early to evaluate in ground, I got it later as I am not on the A (or B) list. Caribbean Whipped Cream --short, but such a welcome sight in the earlier garden. Cedar Waxwing --simple but alluring, so it has managed to stay around. Crystal Castles Cancun Candy --picture from 2020. Not so nice this year. I fear it may be an evergreen that deteriorates. Crintonic Beautiful Day I am liking more each year Carolina Cool Down was a great performer this past year. Carl Sagan - would like a half inch larger Crying in the Wilderness --on the short side Changed in a Moment looks promising. That morning eyezone is such a standout. Classy Columbus was a gift to attendees of the Columbus convention (not me). Crintonic Painted Desert. Pictures can exaggerate the coloring. A slow grower. I have a small piece of this. Creation Rejoices --an earlier Emmerich...See MoreSa-Sn daylilies 2022
Comments (19)Sherry, you know your audience well!! Your quotes are always appropriate. I took the day off to get taxes ready (ugh!!) and thought I would try to get a few photos added to these threads. Can you smell procrastination?? All my photos are on my cell phone (over 7000) and I have not uploaded, downloaded, sideloaded them so I am selecting only a few as I find them!! Comments (15)I love those puppies. Our Riley is an Old Time Scotch Collie. Collies are so gentle and sweet. My picks of the daylilies today is VT Autumn Fires. It sounds like a good one for the end of the season. I also like Victorian Gardens Heaven's Applause. I also like Vision Seeker. Here are my Vs. Here's our Venus Fly Trap. It's a pretty bloom and does well for us, but it is not fertile for us. We have gotten a few seedlings with it as pollen parent, but none as pod parent. Warmer Climes was new last year. It was a bonus from Mike Derrow, the hybridizer. His plants do well here. Wickedly Wild and Wonderful never performs as well as its published stats suggest it should, but still, it comes up every year and blooms well. Wide Wide World is a great grower. However, I am never happy with the photos of it. They just don't show how luscious the color is. Wild and Wonderful is not a great grower for us and doesn't make much of a landscape impact. The photo would be better, though, if I took out the dead flowers. That's all for me. Nancy...See MoreMy First Daylilies to Bloom for 2022
Comments (9)Thanks for all the comments! Nancy - Extravagant Love is a pretty one. Most of Tim Bell's daylilies are good rebloomers, so I'm hoping that one will rebloom so I'll get to see more of it this season. Sherry - I think the scape on the seedling is one that formed in the fall but didn't have time to emerge before freezing temps hit. That scape has moved to the outside of the fan, and it has another scape today emerging from the middle. I have another seedling that bloomed midseason last year with a very early scape that will likely be my second seedling to bloom. I often have a few registered daylilies that have the extra early leftover scape to bloom, but not this year. Hoosier Nan - I do love seeing the seedlings start to bloom. I was disappointed when this first one wasn't showing teeth on the initial bloom. But it has a few tiny ones on the second flower. I'm hoping the siblings will have better edges. Maryl - My remaining outside cats are old, but they still can jump when they hear loud sounds, and they sometimes rub on the daylily buds. I did break off one of buds myself when I moved the pot next to Lavender Dandelion. Kate - You are right about so many different factors influencing the fate of our daylilies. Brad - I've enjoyed seeing the early blooms on these, but there will be quite a lag before the flower show continues. Debra...See Moresherrygirl zone5 N il
