My favorite is any that I can get a good harvest from before the heat of spring does them in with powdery mildew. Mine are producing like crazy right now. I can't recall the name, but the package was one of the Stover brand at home depot. Also, I don't ever have a problem with the strings either. Unless they're overgrown pods. Otherwise, when I pick them at their peak(when the PEAS are not fully formed in the pod and the pod isn't bulging), the strings are so nonexistent that they're edible. Kevin

My snow peas, planted in late November and harvested in April (it was a cold winter -- slowed 'em down) topped out at 6 feet. Not unusual. They were on EW trellises, and they very definitely phototroped toward the south. I found that a bit surprising. The southermost trellis somewhat shaded the northermost one, and I did get a somewhat bigger harvest from that former, better illuminated, trellis.

Hey Crafty - how are the peas doing? I'm still waiting a bit for the pea planting but I am going to start on lettuce, cabbage, carrots and kale today with floating row covers pinned down over them for now. The cabbage will have the row covers for the summer after having bugs eat and poop to the point of not being able to eat not one of them. Do tell - I'm curious to see how they are doing. Your dwarf gray sugar snow peas will have purple blossoms...that's the easy one for me to tell early on. The others you list should all be white flowered. The pods on the Sugar Pod 2 Snow Peas will be flat for quite awhile and the seeds will show though as small bumps. Pick them before the seeds grow large and the pods become rounder since the pods will be tough by then. The Burpeeana Early Peas will have pods that do not stay flat for long and do not show small seeds through the pod. Of course you want to leave this growing until the pods fill with good sized peas. I'd have trouble telling the Sugar Daddy Snaps from the Burpeeana's but since both are picked with rounded pods you can try them and see which has the fibrous pod.....BINGO...that's the Burpeeana and the other should be the tender snap pea, Sugar Daddy. In my garden, heights have not always agreed with the reported info. And some keep growing aller for a longer time and the height when flowering begins changes alot.
