I think it works cos a lot of neutral beige and gray colors exist in room. I would bring some colors in throw pillows.

The ottoman doesn't work with the carpet and it also doesn't look like the right style to go with the sofa.

Combinations do not work well together. Got a feeling you know it.

I feel like there are too many styles and textures going on in this space.
What are some things you cannot get rid of?

Not sure there is color combination. You have black, tan, yellow, olive green, blue etc. Please post a picture of the entire room. What is under the slip covered chair? The floral ottoman belongs with a bedroom chair.

I can get rid of the side chair and floral ottoman—the sectional and green ottoman are new. What would you suggest with just sectional and ottoman? Can’t remove slipcover on chair, it’s an old leather recliner, pretty beat up

Did you consider replacing the slipcover on your armchair? Below I show it in Black (Amazon). I also replace the printed ottoman for a rattan one (Amazon). Then you need to accessorize to bring the black and olive green together, I did it with a black tray on the ottoman, a throw and accent pillows. I also show more modern framed art above the sofa (Amazon) and side drapes on the window behind the sofa. I would remove the corner shelving unit it's too close to the other piece that probably holds your TV. You certainly can do more depending on your budget.

Lisedv’s suggestions were great. Right now, there really is no color scheme. It was nice to know that the black sectional and green ottoman were what you need to keep. You now need to build off of those two colors. So yes, put a new slipcover on that side chair or upgrade to a new one and ditch the floral ottoman. Find art with the green. And I like that lisedv brought in white. You definitely need the white to brighten it up.

I have two old lazboy chairs, would these work instead?

I need to see the whole space and you need to pick a style. The sectional and green ottomnan are already not working together and the chair for sure not with the ottoman in front of it. No I do not think the other chair works better .. That gree pice is way too big for the sectional. How many seats do you need daily in the space ? Takeway the corner unit for sure. What is in the armoire ? Please post pics of the whole room. The pics of LRs in your idea books are great so why not try to copy one of those plans for this space.

The sectional and green ottoman are brand new, not going anywhere. The rest of the furniture is old and can go. So I just need suggestions for a side chair to fit where current one is. Thanks

The beige lazyboy is better than the one you have now, but the black fits better in the decor. Here's the look with the beige...

It’s more a yellow/gold, but I agree. I think a chair to match sectional would work, but I can’t find one for the right price.

in the mean time, you can buy a Black stretch slipcover., at least the look will be cohesive. This one for example is available on Amazon, and others at similar prices, you just need to find the right size for your armchair.

I really don’t think you have room for an ottoman in front of the chair plus the ottoman coffee table. You might physically have the space, but it seems to me like it is one ottoman too many! Try Facebook Marketplace for a chair. My area has several dealers who buy returns from online dealers and then sell them for about half price. I bought a chair still in the original box from FB Marketplace. I like the idea of a black/white chair like lisedv showed. Your black sectional with green chair is already dark and heavy. I don’t think you want to bring more solid black into the room. Yet, you need partial black to pull it together.

To make the room work better everything should echo your green ottoman since it dominates the room. Please, please if you post again, even if it's about pillows, show the entire room so Commentors get the full picture.

--Eliminate the footrest in front of the black chair

--Put a black tray on the big green ottoman.

Pattern makes a room dynamic by offering contrast. Bring in some pattern in your palette of black, green, beige. Pieces don't need to match but they do need to echo each other in color or style.

Here is (messy) room, with more furniture. Other than sectional, ottoman and small side table, I can remove armoire, rocking chair, and replace side chair with ottoman. I like the idea of checked chair too.

do you need the armoire? If possible, I would move out whatever you dont need in that room and then go from there. I like the checked chair too. if you need the armoire, maybe painting it would help. I think a checked chair and the armoire pained would tie in together, leaning to a more modern farmhouse look could work if needed. 2nd thought, looking back at the inspo pics..I like the as is color of the armoire with the checked chair. That could work.

The black pouf is definately not a must, I just showed it because I thought the existing floral ottoman was there for comfort. Yes the black & white armchair would fit the decor. For more impact, you can also place a flat weave area rug on your existing wall to wall. The one below goes in a regular washer & dryer, it's from Ruggable.

Remove the armoire, corner cabinet, rocking chair side table. Replace with a thrifted or new wide console and put TV there. Put your lamp and framed pictures on the console.

Put art work over the fireplace in your palette of greens, blacks, beige in a style you like. Shifting TV and displaying art over fireplace instead that connects to your ottoman will be game changing.

If you decide to remove your armoire, somethiing like this would work well. You can have a gallery wall surrounding the TV...

Do you have a budget? I think you will find very reasonably priced chairs here on Houzz, on Wayfair, etc. Here is one from Wayfair. But warning, these chairs that are less than $300 don’t sit like a Lazy Boy! So, if it is going to be a chair that gets used every day, you might want to spend a bit more.

Your second picture has the chair on the other side of the fireplace. That seems like maybe a better place.

I think you can pull this room together with a few accessory additions and a new chair. People have asked about the large cabinet. Can you get by without the storage? The room will look better without it (and the corner shelf). Replacing it with some sort of credenza (doesn’t have to cost much) with the TV either sitting on it or hung above it.

If you are in a budget, you can still have a fabulous room. But you will need a solid plan and then add items as you can afford. You will likely want to find things like pillows new in places like Hobby Libby or Homegoods. But shop sales! For things like a credenza or chairs, check thrift stores or Facebook Marketplace. You will be surprised how many people redecorate often and sell perfectly good furniture. As for moving the furniture — do you have sliders? Amazing what I can move by myself with sliders! If you don’t need the storage, then maybe you can sell that piece !!!
