I don't think it's Tilia henryana. Typically the "spines" of the soft spine like teeth are much longer on T. henryana than the leaves in the photo. You can find T. americana(Basswood, American Linden) with leaves with small soft "spine" like teeth like the leaves in the photo. The leaves look too large for T. henryana, which top out at about 4"x4"(10cm x 10cm), to me also. They look much closer in size to T. americana, which range from 4"x4" on the small side up to 8"x8"(20cm x 20cm), to me. Also, T. henryana in cultivation has so far been a relatively small tree in the 30' to 35' range(roughly 10m). Lastly, I'm doubtful that T. henryana(considered zone 7 hardy usually) is hardy in the zone 5 Brookfield Zoo which has seen temps as low as -20°F(-29°C) within the past 12 years or so(surely within the lifetime of this tree). So, I believe this is a Basswood tree(T. americana).

It would help to see a picture of the entire plant or, at the least, a description of the entire plant. The 6th (I think) image -- darkish leaves -- may be a flowering crabapple. well, by removing some lights, you could actually be making the others brighter. i have a few strands that if you remove more than 1-2 lights, the strand gets real bright! light strands are series-parallel circuits that are setup so that each bulb basically gets 1.5 to2.5 volts across it, depending on the exact setup of the strand. by removing bulbs, you change the ciruit resistance, and up the voltage to each bulb. as this happens, the bulb gets brighter and gives off more heat. remove enough and the circuit is broken completely on most stradns and you get no light. also, you say unscrewing the bulbs, so i take it this is not the mini lights but the older 4 or 9 watt screw in bulbs. they will produce much more heat than the smaller bulbs. as configured from the manufacturer, the bulbs should be safe. of course we all know that chinese crap may not be, but if the bulbs run cooler with all bulbs in, then i would leave it alone.
