We have a contemporary home and are doing color blocks just as you are. Therefore, I have (4) roses in each color. I chose fragrant roses with the best vase - these are incompatible traits, which is why it is not easy to find (and the reason why florist roses don't have scent). The Reds: Lasting Love (not as fragrant to my nose, but other people smell its fragrance more than I do) Oklahoma - As someone wrote above...shame on me. Not the best for a cut rose, but I couldn't help myself - the fragrance is heavenly. The Garden Center told me that if I kept it well pruned so that the stems are thicker it will last better in a vase so I thought I would try it. Mr. Lincoln - Not the best leaves as it is susceptible to powdery mildew, but I will be proactive with the Neem oil and baking soda. Velvet Fragrance - I have no experience with this one and took a chance because it is a very fragrant English HT. The Whites: Sugar Moon - I caved I got (2) of these bushes because it has everything. Pope John Paul II Secret's Out The Yellows: Midas Touch Valencia Golden Celebration - HT yellow roses have the worst vase life of any of the colors, therefore, I chose this category to enjoy a couple Austins that are known for their vase life. Teasing Georgia The Lavenders: Neptune - I got (2) of these bushes because it has everything. Stainless Steel - I got (2) of these bushes because it has everything. The Pinks: Elle Memorial Day Sweet Surrender Chandos Beauty As for your list...there are some roses that have an excellent reputation for scent that I can barely smell, and I have an excellent sense of smell so go figure....it's a mystery to me. Instead of beating myself up about it I just steered clear of Fragrant Cloud and Bellaroma because they appear to my nose to have a subtle fragrance. Bewitched has an amazing fragrance, but I chose lighter pinks. New Zealand and Secret are great also, but I ran out of room for pinks. I happen to love Veterans Honor and it has an amazing vase life, but they were out of it at the garden center so I chose Lasting Love instead, which has beautiful glossy foliage.

I'm guilty of using "you guys" when addressing a group. It's a habit I've had for a while! My grandma hates it though so I try not to do it around her. I also answer "thank you" with "sure" or "no problem" or "of course" and sometimes "you're welcome." It depends on the setting. If it's a big thing or a more formal event I will say "you're welcome" but if someone thanks me because I hold the door open for them in the bathroom, I will usually say something like "no problem" because it wasn't. But I suppose it's personal - I've certainly never intended or inferred any disrespect by any of these responses. There will always be standard social graces, like being nice and not chewing with your mouth open, but I think a lot of standards evolve. I am sure the ladies of several generations ago would be horrified by some of the perfectly acceptable politeness standards nowadays. :) All that being said, I do especially love seeing children with lovely manners as it doesn't happen very often. Most have some manners, and will say please or thank you (though sometimes prompted!) but I mean the ones that go above and beyond that. I have a set of young cousins (8 and 12 years old) from Tennessee that I love to observe. Whenever their mother calls them, they get up, walk over to her and answer "ma'am?" instead of yelling "what?" like a lot of children do. Any questions from adults are answered with a "yes ma'am" or "yes, sir" and they will hold doors open, say "excuse me" if they need to speak while their parents are talking, and just overall are extremely polite without being prompted because they have been taught all their lives.

Rouge Royale is new to me but so beautiful and so fragrant. It repeats well and has good vigor. I love Eden but lost my plant of it and haven't got a new one established. It seems to do better here grafted. Bought a grafted one last spring. I like Polka a lot for health, vigor, repeat, and huge blooms. I have an old Traviata plant which I bought at Home Depot grafted. It's tall. Repeats well . Blooms are big. Auguste Renoir balled all the time here but was a good plant. It's gone. Michelangelo was a good plant . Leonardo da Vinci was in my way in a path so I gave it away. It did fantastically well in my friend's garden so I have two more coming along in the ground here. Very pleased with it. Yves Piaget smells great but was wimpy here.

My all-time favorites from RU are: Sonia Rykiel (a dozen blooms per flush in 1st year as own-root), Versigny (the scent is worth buying), Poseidon (going to frost with 30+ buds), Summer Sun (compact & small for a Kordes rose), Savannah (non-stop blooming), Pink Peace (great for the vase), Sweet Mademoiselle and Firefighter (both last 5 days in the vase), Betty White, Twilight Zone, About Face, Liv Tyler, and many Austins that RU sold before 2021. Below upper pink is Sonia Rykiel, dark red is the Dark Lady (from RU): Below dark red is Munstead Wood, and and orange About Face, red is Firefighter. Below orange is America, light pinks are Gene Boerner (thornless), and blue is Poseidon. Big red is Peter Mayle (survives 5+ years in my zone 5a winter): Below yellows are Moonlight Romantica (smells just as good as Golden Cel). Upper light pinks are Princess Charlene de Monaco (now 10' x 3') needs space. Blue is Poseidon lasts 5 days. Below deep oranges are Sweet Mademoiselle, light left pink is Savannah, and reds are the Dark Lady (going into Nov. frost with many buds): Below bouquet is picked Oct. 29, 2023 before frost. Red is Veteran's Honor. Pink is Radio Times, white is Bolero, dark pink is Dee-lish, and dark red is the Dark Lady. All are from Roses Unlimited. Below large dark pink is Peter Mayle (eucalytus rose scent, so unique), light pinks are Evelyn, deep pink is Comte de Chambord, gaudy orange is Solitude (worth having for hot summer). Liv Tyler (right deep pink) never ball like Sweet Mademoiselle, Liv Tyler gives twice more blooms than Sweet M. Left dark pink is Pink Peace (worth buying with its buttercream frosting scent). Right light pink is Frederic Mistral (petals get spoiled often in rainy climate, worse than Betty White) Below was Liv Tyler in my garden at above 90 F, it's best for hot climate.
