Exterior refresh needed
Comments (13)Advice I always recommend concerning any plantings inherited with a new house is to wait a full season to see what it is you have. There just may be treasures! Those shrubs in front of the windows ARE too tall for that spot, but (depending on what they are) might be lovely moved to another area in your yard. Shrubs of that size would be expensive to buy so if you move them, you are ahead of the game. Since you want to replace the roof/siding, the workmen will appreciate not having them in the way and the shrubs won't get damaged. Just something to think about... I, too, like the mockup's darker color with white trim. Perhaps beef up the trim under the upper windows a bit, and repeat the bay window's style of trim/siding underneath over on the right set of windows to match... As to what order to do the needed work, I would say to do the roof first -- that way the new siding won't be damaged. Good luck and please post photos of the finished work!...See MoreExterior paint refresh...need colour inspiration
Comments (0)Having the trim painted on my new house. Love to freshen up with a more modern look with just paint on trim, stucco, door, porch and maybe garage door. Can I go darker? Charcoal, Greige? Punch of something on the door? The stone has a variety of colours to pull from and is pretty neutral. It seems so busy and I don't know where to start and end a new colour. Thanks for any advice! Much appreciated....See MoreAdvice on Exterior Refresh
Comments (12)Thanks for info. Keep the windows. The diamond panes were an expensive luxury when the house was built and they still look great. Paint the door white or a terracotta to match one of the brighter bricks. Test colors on foamcore, not the door. Remove the shutters and store them for the next owner. However, if the bricks have discolored behind the shutters and you can't clean them up. put the shutters back up and paint them denim blue or sage green. Paint the door to match. The roof needs cleaning. It is the single most noticeable thing about the house itself. Pressure wash the sidewalk. There is nothing you can do to keep a golf course sod lawn looking perfect if you have renters. Use some fertilizer and compost on the existing grass, then hire a gardener to care for it every week or two. Pretty good, not golf course pretty, is good enough. When you are ready to put it on the market, buy a new door mat and some gallon pots of bright blooming annuals to plant out front. Change the light fixtures to something black and transitional, not carriage lamps like you have now....See MoreNeed paint advice on room refresh with rough cut pine wall
