lighting in our home office/living room
Comments (3)We've got a 13x16 home office with french doors and a 6' window. Lights include a ceiling fan with 4-light kit and then over one desk area we have 3 can lights and another desk area we have 2 can lights. I'm glad we have all the lighting we do. Generally we always have the center light on and if someone's working at the desk they have on their respective can lights....See MoreHome Office Print Framed with 1.5' Black Frame: Sharing
Comments (17)Pammyfay, thank you so much for your opinion and making me feel better about my choices since I have never chosen matting and frames before. I love the Sovia frame and I am glad I went with my instinct. It is so pretty in person with the black grooves on the sides adding some style to the frame without it being too busy for the print. When I opened the package, I was so in love with the picture the way it was. But tonight seeing it lean on the wall and I guess the linen off-white mat picked up the creamier wall color (BM Bone white I have on the walls which is a few shades darker than the picture's linen off-white frame and the lighting is fluorescent modern lamps with no natural light at night. But standing in front of the picture has me in awe of the beauty of the print and the texture of the linen mat and the texture of the suede inner mat. I love the design I chose but I guess I pictured the mat looking less creamy. So glad you also love the black grooved frame and you could tell by the picture I posted. :) Thanks for letting me know you have a similar frame that sounds beautiful....See MoreLiving Room: Do you like this mantle decor? Which overhead light?
Comments (23)The reason I don't LARGE face-on photos of family over the fireplace is it just seems like I am being stared at, lol! On the flip side, I covered my mantle at my old house with SMALL photos in ornate frames of friends and family members. Then a large picture/wood block print I loved in the center. I had wall mounted lights that looked like candle sconces on either side of my art, something you might consider., (either the lights or the sconce, well out of the way of little kid hands). That corner curio cabinet is GORGEOUS and I would put something on the mantel with a brown wood tone to tie in with the cabinet. Maybe a picture with a brown frame or some art with some color in it including brown. Or consider adding some colorful art or something on the wall kitty corner from the fireplace, so the room look a little more balanced. I don't see anything wrong with the sailboat photo, but then we are sailing people and love boats and the water and have spent considerable time thus engaged. If you're land-locked and have no association with boats, then it is a little contrived but will do until you find something that speaks to you. If it were me, and I had traveled the world, I would want pictures of that somehow. I have a large travel advertisement picture of a famous place I visited (Valley of the Ten Peaks in Canada, which is often used in Canadian tourism advertisements) which hung over my couch in the living room of my last house, and was surrounded by some other art pieces evoking the northern Rockies. Which made the space feel welcoming to me. Not saying you should copy me, but just sort of showing how you can develop a theme of stuff that reflects your live and loves in your "living" room....See MoreOffice lighting- no overhead lighting
Comments (3)You could install on the ceiling even if there's not a j-box, I've seen many homes and condos where there's lighting on the ceiling and connected like a swag fixture (long cord to an existing wall outlet). If interested I do make custom lighting based on the client's specifications. Feel free to request a no-cost quote at: Retro Steam Works / Custom Lighting Design PS. I did that on my son's room, where we installed a chandelier and connected it to a wall outlet (controlled by a wall switch)....See MoreKendrah
