A daylilies 2022
Comments (35)Lots of A's added since I looked. Nancy and Debra: All of My Love is tempting me. Must be strong..........Mantis: Any differences you care to mention about the two similar Ashwoods Dark Night and Still Night? Your picture of Ashwood Rings of Saturn is an attention getter...............Heather: I like your Alan Lane Agin. I had it for one season and liked its color quite a bit but it didn't overwinter here unfortunately.....Steve your picture of a Bodacious Pattern is a beauty...........Maryl...See MoreB daylilies 2022
Comments (26)Bass Gibson had an off year, as did many. There were some nice blooms, but a number of bad openings and shorter scapes; BG can be inconsistent, but was great the previous year. Brown's Ferry Peaches and Cream did nothing for me here. Oh, there were a few nice blooms, but just wouldn't establish and get beyond 10-inch scapes. Where in central Ohio are you located, Steve? I am generally wary of Brown's Ferry intros, after being burned a few times. I wonder if you can say more about Blackbird's Song, Nancy. How quickly established, bud count, etc. Boss Lady had a very good year. Big Bang Theory has big blooms. Bud count could be higher. Butter Cream always provides scenes for pics. Belle Cook, despite its shortness, can wow. Black Bird Sings (not to be confused with Blackbird's Song) could stand some shade. Here at Crintonic near noon. Bridge of Sighs can have a nice flower, but would rather be farther south. Blazing Saddles has the typical Hansen tall scape. If only it had a Hanson scape. Blushing Escapade--long blooming glowing color on taller scapes. Blessed Are the Meek. I decided to try this, though one person warned me it is not that vigorous. Broken Chains, one of Karol's better ones here. Butter Pecan in a clump that needs division. Scapes a bit shorter after those late spring freezes. Birthday Wishes. Scapes less consistent here the past year, though not as short as this picture looks. Blue Pink Beauty is in a part of the garden where it is difficult to photograph, but there is always something deserving of a picture. Bubble Gum Twist has yet to make it out of the pot because I don't like the scapes. In the twilight of life, spaces in the garden go to only the most promising. Blood Sweat and Tears --moderate increase Buddy's Wild and Wonderful - a pic from 2020, when it was nicer. Early, which I like. Bloom Where You're Planted --quite showy, though every bloom is not perfect. A great name....See MoreR daylilies 2022
Comments (23)Steve - That's a great shot of Ram! I grew it for seven or eight years in a pot, and it was always impressive. Here are more of my R's: Roaring Rapids Rose Sensation had a lot of splotchy flowers on the original blooms, but the rebloom flowers were very nice. Rosie With a Ring bloomed for the first time in my garden last year. I look forward to seeing this one at clump strength in the future. Rosy Rhino is the parent of my intro, Dearest Valentine. Rouen Cathedral is a great late bloomer, and very tall. With last year's cooler temps, Royal Cypher's eye and edge looked more blue than the usual purple. It had never looked like this before Royal Invitation looked so pretty on rebloom. This one has really impressed me with its flowers, multiplying and pod setting. It's taller than the registered 22 inches too. Scapes were 24-26 inches here last season. Royal Jester is an excellent late bloomer that sometimes reblooms. Ruby Lipstick has still not recovered from grub predation. I miss my big, healthy clump of it. Two Ruby Lipstick seedlings: Debra...See MoreRed Daylilies of 2022
Comments (25)Quite a clump of Heavenly Christmas Cactus! Does yours get the doubling that Gossard talks about? (Maybe not a positive.) The Deadliest Catch seedling looks impressive. I added a couple of Hensley reds after Maryl's enthusiasm. Fear Not has bloomed on short scapes some years. I deleted Fire on the Mountain because of its growth habit (blooms just above the foliage and a space hog), but it is a big brilliant red. Cliffjumper attracts attention. I hear it is a moderate increaser. Cherokee Star certainly deserves its prominence in this post. Harper's Bazaar was not good this year (poor bloom and splotchy). Might be a site problem. Debra, are any of your red seedlings on the path to introduction? Richard Norris always said that good reds were difficult to hybridize (adding ruffles or different shades or edges). They seem to lose their marketplace value sooner than many colors (though not yellow). Stone Palace Swagger (deep burgundy). I am wondering if it will have good plant habit. I am trying a couple of Evick's. Red Headed Hussy has great vigor and prominence in the garden. Vision of Things to Come --good grower Larry's Twilight Bite --good height. Favorite toothy here. Velvet Hammer --a star in the garden this past year, but this was a year with little splotchiness. Vying for best edged red, though not a brilliant red. Geneva Firetruck --I like this vigorous one. Cherokee Star Daniel Howard Norris --a year after division. Dips tend to have low scape to fan ratios. Ruby Grandeur --a later blooming Norris Jelly Roll Morton --it has to fit somewhere Dragon King --great year Dark Gethsemane --to me a red, though purplish tones very early. Tall and vigorous Goldner's Red Velvet seedling --some double scaping this year. Holds brilliant color. A later one. Thick, velvety texture. Dixieland Band --a later delight Mama Drama the old When I Dream Arrogant Bastard has never gotten the height at Crintonic Rogue Primate is such a dominant bully I had to move it. Vivid and floriferous Atomic Inferno Omega Red Hooked on You --low this year. Future? Court Troubadour. I like this oldie Playing with Crayons Man Eater --looks very promising Garry Bewcyk --quite clean this year. Difficult to capture its dark color, especially in a sunny summer. Clash of Absolutes. Smoldering color, but sprawling plant habit. mitch lynd --hard to capture its darkness...See Moresherrygirl zone5 N il
