Comments (22)I know the prep is tedious and so not fun, but the end result is worth it. And you will save a lot of money. Remove the doors and start with the boxes. Then, depending on how much space you have, set up a table for the doors and work on them, a few at a time if that is all you have room for. Patience is the key, this, like any kitchen remodel, will have things a mess for a whilte but once its done you'll be so happy with it. We did a reface for our kitchen, but the prep is similar to painting. We had to really clean those boxes and scuff sand too. Skipping that would mean the veneers wouldn't stick. It was time consuming, there was mess around for a while (took us 4 months to complete the job) but I love it now that its done. With the money you will save, you can buy new counters, or appliances, or a vacation (because you'll want a break after all that work) Keep us posted!...See Moretrying to make home more modern. is it possible with all the honey oak
Comments (12)Why don't you have a consultation with a local interior designer before you choose your furnishings? Create an Ideabook on Houzz or a Pinterest board for rooms you like with oak trim and floors like yours. The few pieces you show are very traditional. More modern pieces, maybe with a bit of oak trim--sofa legs, chair legs, etc.--can echo the oak just a bit. You do have modern lines in one of the photos you show, so more modern pieces will fit right in. Showing this room because of the art, incredible light, great chairs, and lo and behold a traditional table. Look how it all works. (Yes, I realize there's no oak trim here but mixing wood and modern is a great way to go whether you have trim or not.) This is a look you could go for. Notice how the camel sofa and floors harmonize. The modern chairs are up on legs with a golden wood finish. Ditto the coffee table. The rug is a terrific modern design. Everything has streamlined lines....See MoreWhat LVT color choice for honey maple cabinets for modern look?
Comments (11)No, we didn't choose Iona, wechose Vesta as I changed the color of the shower/backsplash tile to Architectural Gray from Daltile https://www.daltile.com/product/Color-Wheel-Collection-Classic?color=Matte-Architectural-Gray&shape=Rectangle https://coretecfloors.com/en-us/products/coretec-stone/vesta-vv568-18363 We're quite happy with the Coretech! A neighbor came to see our bathrooms and commented "it's warm (in stocking feet)" perhaps in comparison to a stone tile which would feel colder. DH installed it and used the Coretech transition for the primary bath, but we had a wood transition that was glued down for the hall bath so I asked him to cut it at a 45 degree angle and I think it looks wonderful! Our bathrooms are small so with this large of a tile there were few that he didn't have to cut. hall bath transition, tile cut to 45 degree hall bath, natural light from skylight in bath hall bath from bathtub, hall weaving is from Huatulco, MX https://www.google.com/search?q=huatulco+mexico+weaving&sxsrf=ALeKk012mrZxsoP1y_9ZS2b20CuGP_Fwdg:1614037566839&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=kgeDyTPUDQUuHM%252C48IRYwsqKt_SVM%252C_&vet=1&usg=AI4_-kQWJyN6535gYFKBUpZ3mYgwsYj4DQ&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjq_My-1v7uAhXCv54KHa1aDqcQ9QF6BAgJEAE#imgrc=kgeDyTPUDQUuHM primary bath with vanity light on Coretech transition, color is Vesta...See MoreNeed help updating 80's home and all it's honey oak everything
Comments (30)I agree with the first above houzzers.....paint it a warm white and leave it for a year living in it to decide where you want to begin, then begin with one room only and do that room completely.....people get so caught up in saving money, that they invariably end up spending a little bit in each room because they cannot afford to do one room right......I speak from experience! Painting the whole house will cost a lot of time money and headaches especially if you have never painted.....just sayin'.....So paint it a nice white and live in it and then decide where to begin first.... As you have always rented, you can be patient, and keep a list going of what you want to do in each room and then will be able to pare down the list to the most important.....personally I think you will get the most bang for you buck, and great satisfaction by tackling the kitchen after your year of living in the house; that way you get to enjoy all the money you spend before you decide to sell it......good luck, your happiness and joy at what you have accomplished in buying a home, is refreshing and charming and admirable.....See Morecdgalo
