New to the Group but not to Yard art!
Comments (19)Daisy and Bright--the circles in the mushroom caps were done with bubble wrap. I pre popped it (so the holes wouldnt be too deep) and then lined my glass bowls with that instead of saran wrap. Then we just poured some thin set mortar (bought at the home improvement store for 8 bucks for a big box of powder that you mix with water). We used toilet paper tubes inserted in the mortar for the stems and, since we didn't have any rebar on hand, i put old butter knives down the middle as a "stake". Basically, just a modified version of some instructions i've seen on this board! :) THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE! You're all so so friendly! I can't wait to post my next project--i just have to decide which project is next! I used to look forward to the weekends because it meant a break from work---now i primarily look forward to them because it means i will have free time for my yard art! When we bought this house 2 years ago (our first home--we closed 2 weeks before our wedding and bought the house instead of taking a honeymoon), the place was a wreck. It was a foreclosure owned by someone who clearly hated yard work. They had replaced all the grass with tons and TONS of river rock and had taken a huge part of the yard and put up 3 massive chain link dog kennels. Between all the hard work we've done getting rid of rock, taking down kennels, and planting grass, I hadn't had much time to enjoy the yard. This spring was our turning point and, between the fruits of our labors and my newfound love of Garden Junk, I'd rather be in my back yard than any other place in the world!...See MoreHave you got the look? Comments (77)Add me to the list of those who love this thread. Five or so years ago I found myself at a New Years Eve party at the home of a sculptor and painter. Within a few minutes of arriving, I understood the joy of living with a lot of art. A number of my friends are professional artists, and I'm fortunate that they've been generous. Plus my mother was an artist, and I'm an avid photographer. So I have lots of meaningful pieces on my walls. But this house doesn't have all that many walls (some were removed, plus we have big windows), and now my cousin, a painter, has started sending me wonderful portraits of the two of us as children, as well as paintings of my gardens. And I've been working on my dad's eminently frameable b&w photographs from the 1940s. Oy! Where will I put everything?? With your help, I'm sure I'll think of something.... Comments (13)You could use a much shorter lamp there to get rid of it blocking the view. However, it seems like a piece of art centered on that wall might not work......... that wall is basically the dividing line between two different rooms, right? (Yes, it's a great room... but the way the furniture is.... it just seems divided.) I would be confused about what to put up for that reason alone.... :) Personally, I would do a grouping of mirrors.... Something hung like these "Garden District" mirrors from Ballard: I'm not sure if the dimensions on these particular ones are right for your space, but I think something similar could work and look very nice....See MoreArt work over mantle - help please
Comments (18)Too high, too small ; I agree with all of the above. Above the mantle is prime space/location, you shouldn't have to merchandise around the picture to make it look right. I disagree with adding more matting, possibly you should look for a print that can be framed with all of the image showing, this particular print looks like the matting is hiding some of the picture by cutting off parts of the trees, not too effective, imo. The colors do work in your room, the red is great....See MoreRelated Professionals
