Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 8/21
Comments (40)Ah Jill.. you have been through a lot in these last few months. Give yourself some grace! You lost the stress and vacation pounds and you are totally back on track. Glad the videos not only make you feel accomplished but that they are elevating your spirits too! I wanted to take a minute to thank you all for the kind words for hitting my 50lb loss milestone! It has been kind of weird though and I want to share it here in case anyone else has experienced the same ... So first off, the milestone passed without me even realizing it. It was almost a whole week before i knew that last week's loss took me over the 50lb mark. I do track my weight a few times a week but the default view is the last 30 days. Anyhow, that may be part of the reason that I just don't feel excited or proud or well... anything actually. I am looking forward and eager to chip away at the next 50 -- I am confident and committed. It's not that I feel anything negative or self-sabotaging. I just don't feel especially proud or like this was an achievement. I want to be clear-- I am not upset or looking for support or more kudos LOL, You all have been great and encourage me in so many ways. It just seems odd that hitting the milestone itself just didn't spark any reaction from me. I guess that's fine as long as I stay motivated. Have any of you experienced the same?...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/6
Comments (28)@pricklypearcactus I really do understand what you are dealing with-- and while it could be way worse as can be seen daily in the news, that doesn't change how it impacts your day to day. I went through a number of major work stressors in the period of time I allowed my weight to get out of hand -- a merger followed by a buyout then a move to another company with GREAT opportunities for me but very very long hours and periods of intense challenges. It wasn't until I started viewing my own health as every bit as important as my career, my team and the deadlines that I started to lose weight and return to a healthier life. The good thing for you is that you are aware and alert to the potential impact of your workload and stress-- I think that puts you steps ahead! Again, be good to yourself! Oh my @legomom23! We are all sisters in our food challenges-- I too find my balance leans way too heavily on fats and not enough on protein. I think I am pretty good on fiber but protein is definitely the struggle. I have only just been able to eat nuts again and I have definitely brought them back with glee -- I do like to include them in my diet because they bring in some minerals that are hard to get otherwise-- but really, I need to pull back on the quantity. I don't really think my fats are so out of control they are just way out of balance with my protein which is too low. I still struggle a bit with chewing meat and I was never a big meat eater. I do eat eggs and beans (not together!) a few times a week but I'm not much of a fan of tofu, tempeh etc. I'll need to add in some other sources of protein like quinoa and the higher protein vegetables and legumes. I was surprised to see how much protein is in wild rice-- something I love-- so I think I need to reeducate myself on good plant-based protein sources. My weight remains the same -- actually 1.2lb up from my lowest weight-- but I have maintained it. I have definitely lowered my calories and am very much back to my routine the last 2 weeks... and I have been more active. I can't explain the plateau. I started wondering if I needed to ADD calories but I don't think that's the issue. The only other thing I can point to is the diet pepsi. I am just about out of it-- and removed it from this week's shopping list so I guess I will see if removing it makes a difference. @gsciencechick I am so glad that you finally were able to go to the clinic! I appreciate the information you and @legomom23 have shared! We are all at different places in our journeys but still we all seem to struggle with some of the same challenges -- the information, experiences and support from everyone has been so helpful and I am inspired daily by all you share new recipes, new activities and your successes. ❤️🥗🥦...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/27
Comments (26)Oh my, @salonva I completely forgot to respond to you when I had to rewrite my post that I lost! I am so glad you are joining us! As far as I am concerned there are no tangents and nothing is off topic.. everything affects our health in one way or another so share whatever is on your mind! And I love that your DH makes veggie snack bags the night before. It's so simple-- and really sets you up for success! If I have to stop working and go cut cucumbers and clean celery etc, it's less likely I will reach for the veggies! @pricklypearcactus congratulations on pushing through the snow and sticking with your exercise plan-- but please please be careful! Ice and bad knees aren't a great combo! So as far as Holiday and weekend eating -- I really wish we could all just enjoy a day or a celebration without having guilty feelings or regrets. I know it is something we all struggle with but one day isn't going to overturn a year of hard work. It just isn't-- unless we allow ourselves to be derailed. These are the holidays and there will be treats and snacks and rich meals and alcohol. I am no nutritionist but this is how I plan to navigate the holidays... Moderation is the key.. eat only the things I really want and love and keep the serving size in check. Often times, I want just a taste of something.. sometimes a serving. I will allow myself a serving but no heaping plates! I will continue to make soup-- it is so easy and helps keep me on track even if i end up having soup for 2 meals a day! I will not let myself get overly hungry (as I can do when I am busy)... this is a recipe for disaster for me. I will keep healthy snacks in the house and easy to prepare healthy meals. I was good about that through the summer but not so much lately. I will keep up on my fluids -- and continue to drink tea at night. I have been inconsistent but when I Do drink tea at night, I don't really want or think about food. I will go out and have cocktails with friends and family-- I won't deny myself that after a year of being locked in the house-- but I will stick to club soda as a mixer and limit my drinks. I had more holiday spirit this year than I've had the last couple of years. I plan to keep it going and I refuse to get tangled up in frustration and guilt about my eating and weight. Luckily I will be very busy over the next few weeks between work and dealing with the mountain of boxes to open and wrap ... that should help keep me in check when I am at home. And if not, I will revisit my list as needed! LOL...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 12/11
Comments (13)Hello everyone! @Funkyart I hope you continue to feel better. It is a hard time of the year to not feel your best. There can be so much to do. ' @gsciencechick - that's a lot of fiber! I guess as a vegan it might add up faster. If I'm really trying I can get to 35-40 but that's chia, flax, or basil seeds and berries in my smoothie, a bean and veggie soup, and lots of veggies in a big salad. I have a bar I eat called Papa Steve's no junk bar that has a lot of fiber, I think 16 grams. If I do all of that in one day, maybe I could get that high. My issue is a lot of fiber comes with carbs, and I can only do so much at one time without a spike. But, no one seems to disagree that fiber is great for you, so it's a great focus. I had my health coach meeting this week, which ended up being a lot like a therapy session. I'm really getting in my head about all this contradictory nutrition and weight loss advice. So, we are going back to the basics. Walk 10,000 steps a day, resistance training 3-4 times a week and do my best to control glucose spikes with the healthiest food choice available to me at that time. I started rationalizing food as their macros, instead of the overall health benefit (in my mind) No one can seem to agree on a lot of things, but for me, if I believe I'm doing the right thing, then it's a lot easier to do. But once you go down the rabbit hole, there are a lot of opinions on what is healthy. And it can make a girl crazy! @Zalco/bring back Sophie! - those are parts I am trying to strengthen. I can see some improvememts already, and that is making it a lot easier to stick with it. I have found some exercises I enjoy doing, put my dumbells in front of the TV, and just go. I'm very happy to have become mostly consistent with that. Hope everyone has a great week ahead!...See Morelegomom23
