Porch and shutter paint conundrum

We are about to convert the carport to a garage, trim down all the trees/bushes, replace all the facia and paint the all the exterior accents and porch siding. The red brick will STAY as I love brick houses. However, I have no clue what color to paint everything! My husband wants a blue door, possibly Naval blue or similar shade.Our gutters will be white. What color would we do the shutters and porch (and garage door)? I'm open to moving away from the white porch if it makes sense. UPDATE:. PULLED OFF THE PORCH SHUTTERS, CUT THE BUSHES, CLOSED IN CARPORT.

Agree that black would be a much better color for your shutters and front door. Having a walkway coming to the front door from the front, as Patricia mentions, is a great way to open up your front to make it much more welcoming than the semi circle planting space you have now. ^The black looks elegant against the tan/beige/yellow siding. ^The wide front walkway opens up the entire front of the house and makes it much more appealing/welcoming IMO. You can have the skinny walkway you have now as an entrance from the driveway, but adding that new walkway will amp up your curb appeal tremendously.

If adding a wider porch isn't part of your budget since all you asked about was color, then make some smaller changes. Do keep the house white. It's classic. A great looking entryway and better landscaping will make your house amazing. --Instead of shutters, add a wooden window box painted the color of your future front door. --Replace the door with a more farmhouse style --Beef up the supports and paint white. --Paint railings white so bright door and window box pop out. --Skim coat porch and steps in gray. --Turn your yard into a cottage garden with plantings of shrubs and perennials

I pulled up this photo. The brick is a little darker but similar to yours, I thought. I like the idea of a green for your shutters and I wondered about painting both door and trim a dark color, maybe a dark purplish almost black. I think the column could be pulled from your chart, a warmer tone than your current white - maybe Swiss Coffee. Think about whether you'd like that same color for your railing and maybe a dark brown from your brick for the treads and risers. Here's a screenshot of some greens that might work. I would remove the shutters. The double windows are not right for them and the ones on the porch make it look dark.

I like the idea of a navy or brilliant blue on the front door. A saturated yellow would also look inviting.

I would consider washing the roof to freshen it up.

Here are my suggestions:

- Remove all shutters

- Keep the porch siding white as it seems to be a dark area

- Straighten the arches and cover the posts with wood planks and stain them

- Install a black railing (porch seems about 6 steps off the ground), it would stand out against the white siding behind

- Install a wood front door and garage door

- Install large black sconces at the front door and on each side of the garage door

- Improve the landscaping in front of the porch

Remove the shutters and I love this color for siding with brick I never like blue or gray with brick

I agree, on the siding left white. A blue door will work if it is bright enough to be seen. That is a dark area, and having a lighter brighter door would actually be a better idea. I agree, your porch is high enough, that you should have a railing across the front. The shutters dont bother me, but, they do make it look a bit busy in that porch area. I like the arches, and would leave them all white, along with the new railing across the porch.

Thanks! I'm going to try and remove the shutters if I can figure out how (no plugs). I think it would brighten it up. Still no idea what color shutters to match the blue door. Color in this picture is what we are going for

WOW! Now we can see your lovely house! OK….so…take off all your shutters. Leave them off for a white. See how YOU like the look of no shutters. I would be curious how the home looks without them. (Think of it this way, they need to come off anyway if you decide to paint them!).

2 months later and many many colors later, I still can't decide on a color for the shutters and door. Naval looked black blue under the porch . SW Honorable Blue looks fabulous! BUT, I'm not sold for it on the shutters. It's currently leaning on the brick by the lower left window in the picture.

Your shutters do NOT need to be the same color as the door. Just let go of your thought that they need to match. I don’t care for the shutters on your house, but if they have to stay, don’t paint them bright blue.

I wouldn’t put the shutters back. They are too narrow for the windows unless you get new shutters that are wider. If you keep them, I don’t like the dark blue. Paint them white and keep the blue door

White shutters same as porch siding + window trim color? Their purpose is purely decorative accent , and since you have rather skimpy window trim it doesnt hurt to accentuate them a little more .... but, at the same time I would want to keep it simple not be throwing any extraneous colors into the mix like that bright blue, Avoid visual clutter - you want attention to be on the porch/entryway. A dark stained wood door would be nice - the natural elements of wood + brick combine well together.
