That's correct, insteng. Citrus are amazingly adaptable, especially when grown in their ideal climates. I have a Rio Red grapefuit growing in the shade of a very large Pepper tree that is thriving, and produces incredibly sweet grapefruits. In fact, it is doing the best of all my citrus up in that area, and it receives the least amount of sun of about 9 citrus trees up there! Melikeeatplants, that's pretty funny :-) Had to be said. Fruitvibes, I think you are incorrect but your post is very helpful :) I had to leave town for a week but minutes before I left I noticed a dozen or so had fallen what had been the past couple days. I squeezed a few and sure enough they were softening already. I opened a few and only one was sweet, the others were more acidic. Looks like the tree retained a few too many, since I discovered a few branches hanging over my neighbors fence with LOTS of small ones. Remember this tree looked like dead sticks many years ago, I didn't know what it was, but after nursing it back to health, this is the first year it has produced a crop. The branches are still few, scraggly and it's a quite bit under-leaved IMO. By next year it should be great. Thanks for taking the time to view and reply.

Afourer is the other name for the "W. Murcott"... not to be confused with the Murcott. They are both similar tasting and what here in California, I THINK, they're marketing as "Cuties" and other seedless type clementines (seedless when grown in the right situation). Anyway, someone here at GW warned me not to place the two in the same yard because of cross pollinations and seed. And when I researching it on Dr. Google, I got overwhelmed by all the agribusiness information... now I'm too confused. One of my nurseries says it needs a pollinator, and one of my local nurseries thinks Four Winds have made all their drwarfs self-fertile (not needing a pollinator), to make matters more confusing. Just wondering if anyone here knows about pollination and the Four Winds Dwarf Clementines. Thanks! Murcott and the Clementine are having trouble both being used here in this state.

As a person that started with a Meyer lemon (twice) i'd have to recommend most other citrus before a Meyer. In my experience they are very sensitive and the littlest change in water, fertilizer and light can cause leaf drop and distress. Now that was great for the tough love approach to growing citrus as now my other trees seem like a breeze but you may want to start with something more forgiving. I have a calamondin and it is doing wonderful, its currently in a growth flush and the little orange fruits are great for marinades and in drinks. I haven't had a full harvest yet as my tree is still smaller but I look forward to making marmalade and well as some Filipino food. I also have a Bearss Lime and that thing is a trooper, only lost a few leaves in the winter when my Meyer lost 3/4 of its leaves and is flowering well now, I cant seem to make it unhappy if I tried. I just got a Lemonade tree and it took a turn for the worst after its repot with all of it leaves drying out and dropping off, it now has some new growth but it has certainly been set back. While lemons are my favorite citrus to eat I have had a harder time with them than the others, now you and others may have a completely different experience with a Meyer but I wanted to tell you my experience. I don't have a clementine but I've heard in general that its easier to get a tree to produce a larger quantity of small fruit than larger fruit, so a clementine, mandarin, calamondin, kumquat or key lime would have a bigger harvest than larger fruit like lemons, oranges, grapefruit. It all depends what you want to get out of your tree production wise, and if you want fruit for out of hand eating or for cooking.
