It's kind of a moot point anyway, since I went back and got the plant today. But yeah, I do tend to think that it's probably a lacunosa -- it's one of very few Hoyas I've managed to find that had heart-shaped leaves (there's a pretty good likeness at www.myhoyas.com, one of the pictures, which I found through maidinmontana's thread), and my understanding is that lacunosa is one of the more commonly available Hoya species. I went with the all-green one. Normally I like a little variegation, but this particular plant is nice-looking without. Thanks for the responses.

Hi Sara, The leaves do feel very firm and the vines look like they are healthy also. I treated the leaves to a Neem spray because this is supposed to help combat fungus, as well as pests. I leached the soil also in case it had been over fertilized by the grower. Someone has said that over fertilization can cause the black/brown spots as well. It just seems so odd that the spots occur only on the back sides of the leaves. I also put a peeled clove of garlic down in the soil, as it is also supposed have natural fungicidal properties. Yet another person has said to rub cinnamon on the affected leaves. Within a month or so of the cinnamon treatment, the spots may fade. Either nothing will happen with all these treatments, or some VERY interesting things will happen.:) I won't throw the plant away, just cuz I'm curious to see how it all turns out. I will, however, isolate it from my other plants in case whatever is ailing it is contagious. Thanks, Sara, for your input. GH

The ugly markings that I get on mine, remind me that I seriously sunburned nearly all my plants when I brought them over here... I am mixed about what I think of this. Some of you will remember that I put two rooted plain green cuttings into a self-water pot, BEFORE I read that most of you keep this one significantly dryer. It is receiving less sun than before, but is out in the elements all the time, with wind and wild critters. I am pretty excited as one of my sleeping peduncles (which all this time I thought were air roots!) is developing and I should have a bloom in three or four weeks, if the creek don't rise, and I hold my mouth just so! I tend to do a lot of misting under the tree. I have epies, and mostly hoyas out there. The Epi society recommends daily misting to deal with heat, so I crank up the wand, and spray everything in sight! Two days after I made sure to get the Kerrie, two leaves up and showed black markings, like following veins. I backed off a bit spraying, the marks are still there, but not spreading. I am wondering if the 'orginal' environment does not have something like mountain elevation with lots of sun, and humitidy that could be tough to replicate. In the gallery there are awesome shots of blooming Kerriis... makes me really grumpy that this one is soooo tough to figure out. My v. Kerrii cutting spent the winter nearly dry to the bone, teeny cutting, potted up, behind someone else. Emptying the plant room in Spring, and Surprise! Poor thing. Still alive, still two leaves. No sign of three showing up any time soon. All I can offer is that it is a plant that can get seriously ugly!

Hey Denise, I tried to post this several hrs. ago, but think GW was having trouble. So I'll try again ... Speaking of pink leaves on H. variegates, look what I found yesterday, on just a Krimson Queen, but still one we all know & many love, so pretty. Snowed here yesterday, several inches, so a splash of color is extra nice. I no longer have my green & white Kerri (which was hydro); you & I had discussed some of these are unstable & make strange growth, mine pooped out maybe a year ago last Summer. Thanks for asking abt my losses w/ Hurricane Sandy, it was (IIRC) sadly, lost 7 of the 11 Hoyas w/ which David had gifted me. Am happy to say the Macrophyllas made it. A couple of the other large leafed ones too. Sadly the loss included a couple of cuttings I'd successfully re-hydrated. Oh well! Glad to say I still have my all green Kerrii which also grows Hydro in Leca stones & bloomed 2.5 yrs. after cutting. Happy to report Denise that both Sans cylindrica leaves you'd shared w/ me have taken off. Hope you saw I posted some of that, likely as Sans. forum (thanks again). Hey HoyaLove.
