Comments (28)Connie Can't Have It has never done anything here, so Connie can have it as far as I am concerned. Sometimes, things actually do better north of here, but we certainly have snow cover now. Change of Heart --I think this is a super plant. Of course, it grows at the estate where it gets lots of sun. Very reliable. Comanche Drums Catastrophe Waitress --doesn't like hot sun Cup of Cold Water --not a fast increaser Christopher Hitchens --lovely, but moderate increase. Nice later one, but could be a tad taller. Cherokee Star --good grower and brilliant in late midseason Cloud Rider --has grown from a single fan Clash of Absolutes --excellent color, but plant not so good Cradle of Bethlehem --Got a bad plant years ago, but is now showing its stuff. I was surprised. Carrick Wildon --very bright Carolina Dale --stands out in garden, but bud count won't leave you breathless Curtis Montgomery --will probably not amount to much here. It took a long time just to bloom. Chicago Girls --pictured in a pot; too early to evaluate in ground, I got it later as I am not on the A (or B) list. Caribbean Whipped Cream --short, but such a welcome sight in the earlier garden. Cedar Waxwing --simple but alluring, so it has managed to stay around. Crystal Castles Cancun Candy --picture from 2020. Not so nice this year. I fear it may be an evergreen that deteriorates. Crintonic Beautiful Day I am liking more each year Carolina Cool Down was a great performer this past year. Carl Sagan - would like a half inch larger Crying in the Wilderness --on the short side Changed in a Moment looks promising. That morning eyezone is such a standout. Classy Columbus was a gift to attendees of the Columbus convention (not me). Crintonic Painted Desert. Pictures can exaggerate the coloring. A slow grower. I have a small piece of this. Creation Rejoices --an earlier Emmerich...See MoreF daylilies 2022
Comments (24)Debra, I see your post with Facemaker. It's a beautiful flower--too bad the bud count is low. I also like Foolish Kisses, Four No Trump and Fighting Fire. We love Free Wheelin' here, but it's not a great grower in our climate. It doesn't increase much and doesn't have many buds, but it blooms every year. Here are some of our F's. We bought Fantasy and Dreams because it is registered as late. I am not sure I like it though. Feanorian Lamps is finally getting going after it was smashed when the pine tree fell and then subsequently moved. Flame of the West is a robust plant with good height to the scape. It's orange so it's popular here. We we thrilled to find Flamingo Carousel, but I'm not sure it's identified correctly. Fox Point is a great grower, but it's not very showy. The flower is on the small side. For some reason we lost our first Fruitful Discovery. We bought it again and this one is doing great. We have a nice seedling out of it crossed with Wolverine. That's all for me. Nancy...See MoreL daylilies 2022
Comments (18)I like that Little Showman and Laura Harwood as well as all of the lavender ones. But that Limelight and Lavender one is worth searching for to me. A local hybridizer was downsizing and moving so they were selling off their inventory by the clump. I managed to get 10 for myself and also donated a bunch to a local community garden. I also snagged some small pieces of those while I was dividing and planting them for the local garden. What else could I do with them as they fell off the large clumps as I was dividing? One man's trash . . . Here's my first bloom on Lady Neva after it skipped the first year. I could see replacing this with a better one, but until I do . . . and one I picked up for myself, Lavender Handle Bars (I actually lost the tag on this one and contacted the seller with a pic and location where I think it was. Although I don't remember the name, he said this was most likely it. If you think it might be something else, I'm all ears . . . hmm, that might be a good name for a new one, "I'm All Ears". Maybe for a poly spider.) Could probably replace this one with Limelight and Lavender (after several years of evaluation). Do people often replace their daylilies with better ones when they come along?...See MoreRed Daylilies of 2022
Comments (25)Quite a clump of Heavenly Christmas Cactus! Does yours get the doubling that Gossard talks about? (Maybe not a positive.) The Deadliest Catch seedling looks impressive. I added a couple of Hensley reds after Maryl's enthusiasm. Fear Not has bloomed on short scapes some years. I deleted Fire on the Mountain because of its growth habit (blooms just above the foliage and a space hog), but it is a big brilliant red. Cliffjumper attracts attention. I hear it is a moderate increaser. Cherokee Star certainly deserves its prominence in this post. Harper's Bazaar was not good this year (poor bloom and splotchy). Might be a site problem. Debra, are any of your red seedlings on the path to introduction? Richard Norris always said that good reds were difficult to hybridize (adding ruffles or different shades or edges). They seem to lose their marketplace value sooner than many colors (though not yellow). Stone Palace Swagger (deep burgundy). I am wondering if it will have good plant habit. I am trying a couple of Evick's. Red Headed Hussy has great vigor and prominence in the garden. Vision of Things to Come --good grower Larry's Twilight Bite --good height. Favorite toothy here. Velvet Hammer --a star in the garden this past year, but this was a year with little splotchiness. Vying for best edged red, though not a brilliant red. Geneva Firetruck --I like this vigorous one. Cherokee Star Daniel Howard Norris --a year after division. Dips tend to have low scape to fan ratios. Ruby Grandeur --a later blooming Norris Jelly Roll Morton --it has to fit somewhere Dragon King --great year Dark Gethsemane --to me a red, though purplish tones very early. Tall and vigorous Goldner's Red Velvet seedling --some double scaping this year. Holds brilliant color. A later one. Thick, velvety texture. Dixieland Band --a later delight Mama Drama the old When I Dream Arrogant Bastard has never gotten the height at Crintonic Rogue Primate is such a dominant bully I had to move it. Vivid and floriferous Atomic Inferno Omega Red Hooked on You --low this year. Future? Court Troubadour. I like this oldie Playing with Crayons Man Eater --looks very promising Garry Bewcyk --quite clean this year. Difficult to capture its dark color, especially in a sunny summer. Clash of Absolutes. Smoldering color, but sprawling plant habit. mitch lynd --hard to capture its darkness...See MoreBrad KY 6b
