Help - New Kitchen Granite Countertops Have Uneven Thickness
Comments (4)Thanks for the feedback to let me know this should not be acceptable. Before buying, I searched online to find out what to expect but didn't find much (mostly advertising.) We bought the countertops through Lowes, but they contracted out the fabricating. I called Lowes and talked to them but haven't heard back. Does anyone else have experience with Lowes and what they do when there is a problem? When a fabricator messes up like that, what usually happens? The counters have already been installed. Should they have to replace it? What a mess if they have to take them off again....See MoreCostco Kitchen Countertops VS Home Depot Countertops
Comments (42)Thanks so much for all of the information My biggest concern is that in as much as I am wheelchair bound I can't even take a countertop measurement myself and after 2 phone calls to Costco's " My Countertop " + 2 emails to their subcontractor in a month's time......I have given up on Costco and don't want to use a subcontractor who obviously has so little interest in doing a countertop for me I just want somebody in Suffolk/Nassau County who will do a good job installing my countertop. I am not looking to " nickel & dime " anyone on price but I don't want to get anyone who will " nickel & dime " me either. I would love to find somebody who will do the entire job well ( including removing & discarding old countertop & sink and installing new countertop & sink ) I would also like to find someone who is willing to come to my house...take professional measurements ...discuss my options to me....make suggestions if needed and show me various samples I don't think that's too much to ask and I hope that there is a good fabricator out there who could do it all for me which I will gladly pay for...See MoreNeed your help with new Kitchen Countertop
Comments (2)There are a lot of folks in the same boat as you that find it difficult to choose elements for their kitchen because of choice overload. To help you narrow it down, get a spouse or family member who will also live in your kitchen and start by each of you throwing out a color in every round until you get to having only one or two on the table. Do this a couple of times until you are sure and you end up with the same ones every time. Don't forget to use the design principles of contrast as well as color family harmonies. You don't want everything to blend together, nor do you want warm and cool tones competing. Then take a break and come back to it with fresh eyes and do the reverse. Pick the 2-3 that catch your eye the most, whether or not they've been the ones that are last standing in the last round. Go to the Wilsonart and Formica websites and you can order 5x7 samples of your choices. The HD laminate can be pretty high priced. I've done several quotes for folks where the difference between it and a basic granite was only a hundred dollars or so. Laminate is only a truly inexpensive choice if you can DIY. There are other alternatives for countertops and you can read pages and pages about those as well as laminate. Just go the the Kitchen Forum here and use the search function at the bottom to start reading past posts. After you've done that and you've received your larger samples, perhaps you'll have additional questions that can be answered by a post there where it will achieve more response than in Remodeling. You can also use Google images or other search engine images to seek out larger pics of some of your choices....See Morekitchen update/ countertop color
Comments (4)Have the tile floor professionally cleaned. Change the lighting if you are going to change it for the remodel. THen pick a laminate with a little brown or tan in it to go with the floors. Otherwise, it will look like the new gray countertop was plopped in without coordinating with the rest of the kitchen....See Moredarbuka
