need help with picking finishes for entry staircase
Comments (7)If you want durable, you might want to look at the stone-like porcelain tiles that are available now. I brought a sample home recently that looked like limestone. It was a very light beige, nearly off white. You might need to visit a few tile stores to view a good selection. Each store only seems to carry a small number of porcelain tiles, but there are many styles available. Monocibec has some great porcelains, but I've only found 2 local stores in the LA area and they each carry the same one style out of the dozen offered by this company. Wish you were in LA - we seem to be shopping for the same things! (I gave you the garage doors info)...See Moretrying to pick out finish for new pool..HELP!! please!!
Comments (20)Wish I could help with the equipment. I don't have a heater and just took what they offered with the pool. I have a Jandy stealth pump, a nature 2 Fusion Soft salt chlorinator, and a simple polaris 280 vacuum robot. I really wouldn't recommend the polaris. It messes up all the time. the wheels get hung up and won't turn. I have to pull it out of the water and turn the wheels until it decides to start working on its own. I'll probably have to buy something else this summer. BTW, I still can't get in my pool because the water is still too cold. My friend's pool is warmer and they have already started using theirs. I have shade in my yard and she doesn't. I am drooling every time I look out the back door. I can't wait. The color you picked sounds good and I'm sure it will turn out great....See MoreNeed Help Picking Finishes Kitchen! PICS!
Comments (24)Yes, in a small kitchen that is visible from other rooms, carrying the same floor through into the kitchen will make it seem more spacious and all-of-a-piece. I'd add another suggestion, if you'd like to consider it. I would paint the lower cabinets in a rich brown/bronze - the darkest tone in your new countertops would be a good choice - and leave the upper ones white. I also wouldn't add surface molding to unpaneled doors...they collect dirt, and ease of cleaning is probably something you want in a full life. Since your kitchen is visible from both sides, dark lower cabinets on a wood floor will feel more like furniture in a room that is part of the whole house. And for that same reason, I would consider carrying the wall color from your family room or dining room into the kitchen as well, to bring the spaces together. You could also use the wallcolor on the upper cabinets in a satin finish, if you want to fully integrate the kitchen into the plan....See MoreDesigner to help pick finishes: tiles, paint, cabinets etc?
Comments (6)Sherwin Williams has a paint designer on staff. She is coming to our build with the color books and her expertise with color selection for direction the house faces, etc. It's $95/appt, and includes a $50 SW gift card (net $45 if you need paint from SW). Our flooring / tile store has a designer on staff, she's free to use. I'm using her a LOT. She will help with my stone purchases for slab also, even though I'm not sourcing through her because I am bringing samples of the stone with me to my flooring appt. Cabinets - bring samples of selections from flooring / tile / slab or bring cabinets to designer at flooring store. A good designer here is about $200/hr, and there are minimums. I can get a pretty good level of service using the "free" resources from my subcontractor supplier on-staff people so I'm going with that... oh, and pinterest. That said, a good friend of mine hired a designer for a flat weekly rate and that person was at her disposal for 8 hours M-F. The shopped together for furniture, tile, cabinets, carpet, etc and then the designer did mock-ups in the evening. I think it was about $2500 for the week, plus she flew her in from a different city so airfare, incidentals, hotel. Her house is gorgeous because everything just is perfect....See Moreelcieg
