Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 6/12
Comments (40)Just catching up with this thread. I am in the same boat as Mtn. Incredibly down compared to normal. When all the nonsense in life started, wise old me thought, This is all going to pass soon. Then Covid came, Science will win, I thought. And now, well the problems keep piling up, and science is in a stalemate with the virus. The economy is doing what its doing, which will hurt many people and affect politics. Gun violence, like teen suicides, appears to be contageous. My very deep reserve of optimism is running low. And my response has been pathetic. I just had a slice of Basque cheesecake for lunch (I didn't buy or make it, DS2 is home and he likes the kitchen, darn it. I call him, The destroyer of my good intentions.) Funky, I hope the surgery went super well and your recovery is quick....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/20
Comments (19)Congratulations @yeonassky and @Funkyart on the losses! I'm also sorry that you've been sick, Funky. I hope you feel back to 100% soon! @jmck_nc glad to have you chime in. It's been great to have this supportive group for all of us. My weight is still hanging in just a pound or two above the goal weight I hit at the end of summer. I'm not going up further, but I'm not getting it back down to that level either. I'm still doing IF 5:2. I think am stress snacking on my 5 "normal" days, so I am going to work on being more mindful about that. My husband was quite sick last week so that altered some of my eating as well since I was trying to accomodate his needs. The good news is that I think all of this work to improve the health of my digestive system seems to be working because I don't seem to have gotten sick. Last week I missed two days of exercise, but I'm not going to feel guilty about it. One day my husband needed help with things before and after work and I just ran out of time. The other day was the service for the child in my family who passed away and I underestimated how draining that would be. Afterwards I came home and curled up and couldn't get myself to go exercise. But I'm back at it going strong this week. During one of my swims this week I chatted with a friend and he had some drills he's been trying out so I tried them out the next time and woah did that give me a good workout. I really struggled lifting weights this morning with my shoulders and back so tired from the swim yesterday. I even managed to force myself out running in a light snowstorm today despite my laziness screaming in my ear about getting cold and how much nicer it would be inside the house under a blanket. Now I have the benefit of seeing my dog completely passed out from the exertion. For Thanksgiving, I'm going to stay in my home town and eat with my parents and sibling who are gluten free and vegetarian capable cooks. Unfortunately this means my husband and I will be apart for the holiday since he is going to his mother's home which is 4 hours away from our house. He's driving from a completely different state (due to his work) and so if I want to go, I'd have to drive there alone. My family tends to cook fairly healthy, so I'm looking forward to the food. I will try to be reasonble in my portions, but I'm not going to stress about it too much. I will be eating pie. :) On a clothing note, I ordered several dresses in preparation for the service for the child who passed away. I ended up keeping several of them because I think they will be good additions to my wardrobe in the future as well. But the biggest thing for me was feeling like there were several good options that actually fit my body. With my weight going up and down over the years, I was definitely at a high weight and low morale at the beginning of this year. Being able to work with my doctor to make a plan and stick to it to really get fit has been so rewarding. I am more physically capable of being active. And it sounds vain, but having clothes fit well really helps my morale. I even ended up order one more dress that I found on sale that is not for a funeral but I ordered it anyway and I feel fabulous in it. I never would have picked something like this a year ago. This is a picture of the dress (on a model, not on me)....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/12/2023
Comments (5)Gscience - sorry you fell! Ugh, but it does sound like you are recuperating well! Hope it's a quick recovery from here on. Springroz - amazing Pilates consistency! That must feel fantastic! Funky- I hope you enjoyed your walk. We have been having lovely weather here as well, so I have been forcing myself to go along on the morning dog walks. Always glad I went, it's a good way to start the day. I had a good week mostly. Lots of walks, three good pickleball days, and three full body weight trainings. I have a great setup in my basement now that will allow me to progress through the winter and a goal to be strong to ski in February, so that should keep me motivated and moving forward. I'm still thinking about my bloodwork, nothing was alarming, but I was hopeful for some different numbers. But looking back honestly over the past few months I can see I wasn't really changing much up. So, I do have a couple tweaks I'm going to work on and see where I get. Mostly more fruits and vegetables, more water, more weight lifting, and some targeted supplements. I'm terrible at taking vitamins of any sort, but there is a theme in my bloodwork which might be helped with a couple additions. But, in the big picture, I am grateful for my good health so far in life, grateful for the mental health and mood boost eating well and exercising gives me, and grateful for my body which is getting stronger and allowing me to enjoy the activities I love. Can't let myself get down in the weeds too far :)...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/19/2023
Comments (9)Funky yes being devoted to just getting in shape and losing weight is a losing venture. And it waxes and wanes for all of us right? At least it does for me! Shrug :-). Funky I admire your choices with regards to what to eat for Thanksgiving. I however am very confused by the words I don't eat mac and cheese.. but I understand that you don't think it's a traditional side. We've never had it as a side here but since I've been hearing about it more and more regularly from south of the border I have thought about making it. Shrug. I wish I didn't love cheese so much. It seems like the only thing I can't turn my back on as far as high fat foods goes. Gscience I am so glad you are feeling better. Glad you are able to wear your undergarment again! If I couldn't I might be one of those people who wears four t-shirts and doesn't go out at all. Not very comfortable without some kind of undergarment. Read br*a. I'm kind of forced into a pseudo nutrition based life. But if I didn't have to I tell you I would be eating entirely differently. First thing I would add is licorice :-) yes licorice. But I can't eat it so I make do with things like Bliss balls. They are not licorice they are second best chocolate. Well or coconut and chocolate I am continuing along with the same core exercises. A few times I've had to do it on Saturday instead of Friday but that has turned out just fine. We have been going camping and DH been riding his electric mountain bike deep into the mountains. I stay in the camper mostly and cook meals sew clothes that need a bit of tweaking which I want to wear for dancing. We have a lot of fun doing this. I obviously do my exercises there as well. We missed one week of dancing and boy did I miss it. We are practicing the two-step at home as the places we go are a mix of country and pop and rock for their dance bands. I will rock out at home and often it is music that I know I will hear at the clubs. :-). So I watch a lot of music videos and listen to a great variety. Last night at our dance they played Footloose. A lot of fun and everyone joined in. We are getting back on track with walking the dogs for longer every day and I'm glad that that is happening. DS and I have been struggling with the usual weather change migraines. So frustrating. Shorter more frequent walks are what we can handle when we're sick. I hope everyone is doing well and has a wonderful week!...See MoreFunkyart
