My trim is painted white throughout the house....with the exception of my son's room. He decided to do it himself on a whim about a month after moving in. The room was baby blue with a hand painted sky on the ceiling which looked more like an angry galaxy. He couldn't stand it and used the buff color I had used for my living room walls. I was almost crazy watching him paint, he did it in 3 hours and covered everything including the baseboard,coving and ceiling in one color. Results really surprised me, it looks great and made the room feel larger, much more pulled together. Am not sure if I'd do this in any room, but for this one it worked out well. All in the beholder, this sounds like a job you will have to play with. Buy some cheap oops paint or use something you have around and try an area. May be added work, but paint is easily changed and painting, as with interior design, is a personal decision. While at Lowes for plumbing, I mentioned the return of blue/pink/yellow sinks/toilets which were on display. The two guys said "yeah, back to the 60s/70s". My kids (in their late 30s) were commenting on some green dishes bought to use for matching my kitchen paint picked out. They think these greens look exactly like the avacado they grew up with. My explanation that the greens are "herb" tones just brought a bunch of giggling. I love green and will still paint the kitchen an "herb" green. But admission that they have now tainted my seeing the different shades and in the back of my mind is avacado.

Just to follow up, Kilim Beige on the walls with Alabaster trim/ceiling looks great in the new house! I love the colors with the dark walnut doors/cabinets and bronze fixtures. They just hooked up electrical so it looks nice with artificial light as well. Sometimes I regret not looking into SW Pavilion Beige, but I don't know why I do that to myself...what's done is done and I should be so relieved that Kilim Beige looks great! When they first painted I thought I saw peach undertones and I panicked. But I did not see that again. It is definitely warm, but I can't detect any real undertones. Flooring isn't in yet, so I'm curious to see how the color will change. patty_cakes, you wrote in a previous post above: "As for the color/colors, just a very pleasant, warm tan that has a beautiful candlelight hue in the evening. Good luck. ;o)" I thought of your comment when we saw the house for the first time last night with artificial light...kilim beige does have that beautiful candlelight hue in the evening! David thanks for your reply. I too don't disagree with any suggestions as I am always open to ideas, but for right now I think simply painting the walls and perhaps the upstairs hallway the same color would be the best option for us. I do love white trim, but with a few different rooms having a nice beige/tan color with the wood trim, I really want to keep those intact. So if I switch in one area of the house, I will have two sets of trim and I am not sure I want that as it will force me into having to make determinations about the transitions from room to room, doors, etc. Not to say in a couple years I wouldn't want to tackle that, but with us having a baby, I don't want to take on too much. I am curious about the steps as well. At least the exposed portion of the first 4-5 steps leads me to believe there could be something decent to work with. Any opinions on white ceilings vs same wall colored ceilings? We also have 10’ ceilings everywhere. Functionally: If you use top grade (not "ceiling" paint) white paint on the ceilings, you can change wall color a couple times within 5-8 years without having to paint the ceiling too. If you do walls/ceiling same color, you paint the ceiling every time you change wall color. Last, white reflects more light. Aesthetically: There isn't a right answer. It comes down to personal preference. I myself prefer a white ceiling above my head. YMMV.
