LED potlights.

You have good lighting now so I would be picky on this. that being said I would just remove that dome light in favor of another can. and yes they are everywhere. seems something was done out of order or after something else was changed. Can you post a picture looking at the length of the island or toward the window.

It looks like you’re trying out white paint options for your foyer. Will the foyer paint color be changing? A lighter/white paint color will bounce more light around the space. A shear on the sidelight would let some light in, add a softer texture and possibly some pattern into the space, and offer some privacy too. I’d make those changes first…before choosing other light fixtures.

For clarification, are you saying you don't want recessed lights? Can't afford them? Hate them?  Ceiling fans have fallen out of favor. But they do help disburse the heat that comes with cooking. Do those who say ditch the fan not care about that because they're out of fashion and they'd rather be miserably hot in the kitchen than have a dated look? Or do you just not cook in the summer? Or has some new technology come about that I don't know about? And don't chide me with "air-conditioning". Glad @herbflavor detailed the different types of lighting most people will say you will need. We have a central ceiling fan light combination for ambient light plus under-cabinet lighting. I can vouch for wishing we had lighting over the sink. I have loved under-cabinet lights since the 70's. The most recent ceiling fan/light fixture replacement used the led technology and really added a lot of light even without the high K setting. I just got wafer lights in the low ceiling of my new bathroom and am amazed at their power. The brand my contractor used can be set to different light temperatures, and the electrician likes 3500K. They are set on a dimmer and when I turn them all the way down they look like moonlight as opposed to the candlelight effect I would get with a lower temperature. I don't know if that is interesting to you, but it was to me.  There's one person who regularly posts here who will tell you to choose 4000K no matter the space, and another person who will tell you it's too much for most spaces, even the kitchen. If you are new to this like I was, you might be comforted by knowing you can get adjustable ones and can try out the cooler, higher K levels during construction to see how you feel about them. I tried some high K lightbulbs in a bedroom and am grateful that I can finally tell the difference between black and navy. But it makes my pine furniture look awful, like it's covered with some weird purple grey film. It really enhances all the purple, blue, and green in the bedding though. My point is to be thoughtful about what colors will be in your kitchen and how it might make your wood floor look. The golden and orange woods look worse than the reddish chocolate brown ones. There's always an inexpensive area rug I guess. So I am left wondering if I should try more ambient lights at a lower K setting to keep my wood from looking awful but still have the light I need, and have my under cabinet task lighting be a high K level since it won't look weird on the wood.
