Mantis, I will have to get back to you on Good Impressions rebloom. I know it doesn't rebloom anywhere the way Happy Returns does. Julia, I have wondered if our orange double NOID was Peach Magnolia, but the scape height has never achieved 32" as listed by AHS nor have any of the flowers been 5.5 inches. It is a dormant diploid, but I would say the bloom season for us is early, not MLA. The thing is, growing conditions from place to place can vary greatly, so anything is possible. I would love to be able to definitely name it, but probably won't happen. Glad everybody likes E. Esmerelda, sure wish the color had come out the way it looks here, which I would describe as Raspberry Red, really striking. I appreciate all your comments and interest. Avedon

I spent my morning hours today giving the yard one last mow, mowing the leaves as well as the grass. I then padded all my beds with the clippings. The idea, which I got from a book or website, is that the clippings are even now decomposing and generating heat. When I cover the Tropical bed tomorrow night, I should have a combination of solar heat and decomposition heat to help the bed through the night. I don't expect a lot of heat, but maybe just enough to make the difference between alive and dead.

That chipmunk is my cats nemesis. Most of the beds that I'm eliminating are ones that have only a couple of plants in them since I moved several of them 2 years ago to other spots. I believe the short scapes is due to lack of rain as well as the bud drops. We did have a late spring with snow squalls into late April. If I had the option to do watering I'm sure things might have been better but it is not an option here. Brad: So sorry to hear Berma has not done well for you. This year mine is barely above foliage. Not typical for here. I don't recommend Inca Puzzle for your area. I think mantis had complained about it being too short and not enough blooms. I think his weather is more typical to yours. Julia
