Picture/picture ledge placement

I’d love recommendations for where to put up two large vertical pictures and two or three 22 inch picture ledges (same as the bookshelves). Previously there were two single beds with a picture above each but we subbed one out for an activity table. The wall opposite has a dresser and three frames above it.

Can you show us the pictures? Are they a pair so they can't be hung separately? This looks like a child's room. Does the child need to be able to reach the items on the shelves?

Thanks so much! It is a kid’s room but they don’t need to be able to reach. I’ll take photos once I can (they are of disney cars characters:) and have matching frames, width is 2/3 the width of the bed and activity table widths (bed and activity table are same width). They could be hung separately.

Hey guys! Thanks for the input. I'll lower them but I do want to keep the shelves there. I think adding more shelves might be too much for that area and it would make one of them too close to the light switch. I did tinker with the idea of photos on the wall at one point but prefer the shelves. Also, for some reason DH is very anti photos in a wall arrangement. I showed him a bunch of well done inspiration photos and he felt they looked cluttered. As far as the other side of the hall, I'm not sure if I'll eventually do anything with that or not. I feel like it currently looks lop sided but I don't want to feel cluttered either. I do know I wouldn't put shelves on the other side too.

Yes it’s a real recess wall, it has lights at the back of it and the logs at the top are a bit sparse 😂 I need to find a couple smaller ones to pop in there. so unfortunately I can’t move it. I have added another plant to the fireplace. I can’t seem to get the right balance of colour and I think it’s definitely got too many photo frames. Thant’s a good point about the door and wood, I was actually thinking of a tan leather chair to the left of the sofa and lots of tan photo frames above the sofa with a tan wood picture ledge. and if it helps to balance it I Have now got a wood tan coloured keyboard in the very far part of the room and I am thinking of adding some kind of brown/cream wall decor??? like the feathered macrame??? So the brown shoul hopefully balance out a little. 🤷‍♀️

You could use painters tape to mock up how they would look. I think they'd be fine side by side centered on the towel rack wall. My eye would ignore the towel rack since that's not actually decor.

they should be hung around this height You could do taller pieces there too. I also think that tile should stop at crown level and the crown should be straight across. the way you currently have it, run into the ceiling, makes it look abnormally tall and out of proportion. If you had taller ceilings I think you could get away with it. tried to find similar fireplaces I did find this one w/out the crown, but it's a taller ceiling and there is a drop ceiling over that portion. however, notice the art pieces on either side and how tall they are

I would hang one of the larger pictures back over the bed. I think I would do the shelves offset from each other instead of lined up because that would be more interesting looking. Before you put holes in the wall, put up some painters tape to represent the shelves to test the layout. I don't have pictures of childrens' rooms, but here is a picture from a home office that shows what I'm talking about. You don't have as much room so you would have two across from each other.
