Thanks everyone! We are so pleased to be done. Palimpsest, yes the shower head is at the back of the tub. bumble_doodle, we have an extra long curtain and it does not wrap around. Turns out that while we thought we'd need a wrap around, we actually don't at all. The water from the shower does not splash there at all thankfully.

The layout will have to remain the same. Enter the bathroom and the tub is to the right in an alcove, The toilet is right in front of you as you enter the room. There is a window over the toilet. There is a pedestal sink, with a tri panel medicine cabinet directly across from the tub. A 3 light fixture is over the sink and there is only one outlet to the left of the sink. The distance from the sink to the tub is about 24 inches. I often laugh that you can soak your feet while brushing your teeth while seated on the throne! I guess in 1940 the idea was to do your business then get out. No spa experience in my house. The only storage is the medicine cabinet, and a tall inset closet about 14 inches wide cabinet on the tub wall, where we borrowed about 5 inches from the linen closet. I use this closet for toiletries, etc. I have had white 4x4 tiles in the tub area and a white grey veined ceramic 8x8 flooring. The is one pot light over the tub .There are frosted glass sliding doors on the tub. (When we had shower curtains there was always water on the floor). I am kind of tired of white, and trying to clean the grout around all those tiles. Perhaps 12x24 would be an option. I also need a quiet exhaust fan for the ceiling. I think that I need to make the bath attractive to potential buyers. My husband and I are seniors. If we need to go into senior living I want the bath to look up to date not like something buyers see at grandma's house. I am close to NYC transportation, so the younger couples in my neighborhood are in their late 30's with one child. There are 3 bedrooms and two linen closets on the level with the bath. My style is traditional, but I would rather install a bath that appeals to younger people. Thanks for your help.

I like option "B", with some possible tweaks (some of which may have already been mentioned by others): 1. Recess a medicine cabinet above the sink. I did this three years ago and absolutely love the medicine cabinet we ended up with, Kohler, with mirror both inside and out, plus an adjustable magnifying mirror. If I had to renovate a future bathroom, I'd pick this same cabinet again in a heartbeat. Kohler Mirrored Medicine Cabinet 2. It looks like you may end up with several inches of space in the upper left hand corner between the wall and the end of the tub. A. See if it is enough for a narrow storage space - maybe something can fit in there like a 6" pullout, which can be great for storing a variety of personal hygiene items - shampoos, conditioners, body lotions, etc. Look at some kitchen cabinets or rev-a-shalf items for possible fits. Here's an example: Using Narrow spaces Another option would be to use that space to stack rolled-up towels and similar linens. B. Another option would be to use that space for storage from the inside of the tub, as in a deeply recessed niche for the usual assortment of bathing products. 3. Consider putting in partially recessed shelving or cabinetry above the radiator for additional storage. Depending on your decor and budget, you can be pretty creative with something like this wall system, and it give you the option to easily adjust it as your needs change in the future: Kerf modular adjustable wall system 4. Don't forget to consider storage above the door frame, and behind the door itself. You can put a couple of towel racks on the back of the door. And if you have a wall towards the back of the tub, you can add a couple of hooks on the wall partitioning the tub from the narrow storage space, to hang a bathrobe or towel.

Thanks for the advice! No DIY for sure... will be hiring professional contractor, plumber, architect and kitchen designer. I figure it would be pricey. The kitchen is 13ft by 6ft but of course the dumbwaiter is taking up a large portion of the space in the corner. The bathroom is 5ft by 8ft. The ceilings are 11ft tall so will definitely take advantage of the vertical space... what would you recommend for both the bathroom and kitchen? Should I expand the dumbwaiter large enough where I could possibly fit a fridge or keep it as a large closet instead? I spoke to my co-op board and I can expand the dumbwaiter but to be mindful of the low bearing walls. i am submitting a proposal to the co-op board before work begins.
