how do i break up the all white tile look in my small bathroom
Comments (7)I like timeless tile schemes also, like your all white...and have learned from experience and too much analyzation of inspiration images that texture and layers trump color for impact. Break your white up by using shadow as a color- variences in tile depth when trim pieces are added (chair rails, bullnose, baseboards...) break up the flatness of simple field tile. Adding a horizontal line with trim at a traditional or non-traditional height and/or changing the direction of the subway for some portion of the room- breaks it up and keeps your options open for adding color to less perminant layers in the room. Also, you're right on about adding a bit of color between the floor and walls- I don't think matching wall base tile to the floor border tile is the best solution...keep the plane-change-line sharp. If you use small hex for the floor, consider a contrast by inserting a grey hex every 1/2 foot or so (the wide-spread polka dot effect will open the area too)or add the grey hex as a 3-4" solid or checked floor border around the entire room. Since there will be little color contrast on the walls, a contrast where floor meets wall is warming because it grounds the room. This is fun, huh? kat...See MoreGreige experts/fans:Why do my greige paint colors look icky at ni
Comments (4)patty cakes-I went through so many samples and spent so much money. When I saw a huge portion of my wall painted with camouflage I thought it looked great! Silver, gold, black, and white frames all looked lovely with the color. It's gray yet green and also a bit "warm". It just looks yucky at night in my dining room so perhaps it's just the type of lighting. Anyhow, my point is that I thought I did a great job of weeding out the one's I din't like. Oh well Palimpsest-you're right about lighting! Camouflage looks pea green in my kitchen which has recessed halogen lighting, and looks more gray/green in the other rooms (well at night it looks muddy in my dining room). Changing out the light in my sons room was what I was thinking I should try so thank you for confirming that!...See MoreShould I do white walls with dark grey accent walls?
Comments (5)How much light do you get (windows are facing east? west? north? south?)? Is that large/long wall going to be the TV wall? I think with proper natural light and lighting, a dark wall can work, but otherwise I would stick with a subtle color difference between wall/trim in a NYC apartment....See MoreWhy does my Porcelanosa Madagascar wall tile look pinkish?
Comments (14)Does anyome have any ideas on what . color wall paint and vanity top I should use? Ideas. Sure. Question is whether you want to do it or not. The following process is worth considering because eyeballin' it isn't working out so great so far. The only way to know - for sure know - is to measure the wall tile and the floor. I've posted tons of Reels on @thelandofcolor on Instagram walking thru these steps, measuring various paint/materials. You can get a Color Muse on Amazon delivered $70. Use the Variable Color Muse app. In the setting make sure it's D65 illuminant and 2 degree observer. Get and record the LCH values for the tile and the floor. H = Hue angle/family. This is what you're looking - first C = Chroma. This is what you're looking for - second Because colors in the same hue family neighborhood go together. Hopefully they wall tile and floor are in the same hue family range. Go to The Paint Color DNA Table and search for paint colors in that same hue family - and chroma - range. There's a tutorial above the Table that tells you how to enter operations into the filters for H - hue angle and C - Chroma. The Table is currently a public resource but won't be forever. The results in the table are all the colors that align with the color data values you captured from the wall tile and floor using the Color Muse....See MoreMelissa R
